WTB: Paying good $ for 10 car or motorcycle themed games from 80s or 90s (S. CA a plus, condition important).

I'm putting together the first of a few mini pop culture shows in just over a month, and the first one is driving themed. I need to find about 10 driving themed arcade games from the 80s or 90s.

Price: willing to pay fair prices or retail (or maybe even more for the right pieces).
Condition: very important. It should present well in a gallery or museum setting and will be surrounded by good lighting and non-arcade pieces in pristine condition. A, A- or B+ machines wanted...

The machines will receive moderate play for a year, and should be reliable. I'm going to set them up for token play.

I'm looking for:

1 twin (2-player) linked sit-down racer (definitely) [Daytona? Crusin' Exotica? San Francisco Rock? -- I don't really have any preconceived opinions)
1 ride on motocycle game (optional, but seems like a nice idea).

For uprights:
I found a Spy Hunter already.

I was thinking of machines like (but not married to any of them):

Super Off Road (3 player game)
Pole Position (if reliable)
Rally-X
Sega Hang-On (especially if I don't find a ride on motocycle game)
???
???
???

I'd love a variety of game styles and of driving mechanics... some drivers you just move left and ride. Some you will wipe out or spin out easily if you hit a curve too fast or even if you take you foot off the gas too fast. I just played a twin Sega Touring Car (1996) and the mechanics were very different and maybe more realistic than say that of Daytona. [The Touring Car isn't available to me.]

Please PM me (or if you prefer, post here).

Thank you.

Greg

I had one, cool game. will definitely add to the variety and throw out your back while you're at it 😄

Pole Position (if reliable)

Not sure if you were being facetious or not? Perhaps the most unreliable PCB ever produced.

None of my driving games are anywhere near pristine, so I can't help you source. But I didn't see Championship Sprint (or perhaps Super Sprint) on your impromptu list, and that style's a must for a collection like you're describing.

Race Drivin' -- I'm sure I've played one, but I just can't remember it...

Maybe not so facetious as wishful. I've not hard one but I've heard enough stories to spook me. And for this project, the last thing I need would be problems. Plus, I have fond memories of the game when it came out, and it clearly is iconic, but the last few times I've played one I didn't really find it that fun.

Yes, Super Sprint / Championship Sprint are both on my potential interest list.

Yup... we actually talked about Outrun... Outrun 2 might be ok, but is pushing the limits. I'd have to check if the cars in it are really '90s' as the game came out in 2003.

So... Pole Position is notoriously flaky. Is PP II any better?

Pole position II is basically the same PCB. Very minor differences.

Bump. I have an exhibition that will be announced in about a month and starts immediately thereafter... and I'm still looking for 80s and 90s car and motorcycle themed games. Cabinet condition is important. Restored is ok (if tastefully done and within reason). No LCD.

Power Drift would be another good option, that was pretty popular from what I remember.

I keep seeing the Fast and Furious ones pop up in my feeds but those are outside the scope of your timeframe. Few Cruisin' variants around here but Texas might be a bit out of your way.

Outrun + Outrun 2 would be a good set...

I'd love to find an Outrun...

That's half a machine... and all of a project. I'm need to find things that are a little more ready to roll.

You would think that power drift would be easy to find since it really wasnt very loved, but I've been looking for years and haven't come up with one.

Maybe look for a speed buggy or buggy boy, they are cheap and reliable not to mention built like tanks. I sold mine off after we got a crusin sit down, but before that it was close to the most played game for kids.

I'd definitely consider an upright version of Speed Buggy or Buggy Boy. (Speaking of which, I don't have the space anyway, but I don't recall even seeing the 3 monitor site down version).
