Do what everyone has done with that problem. You solder the power wires directly to the board.
Make sure you solder to the right traces.
 
I agree that is not the correct way to do it but, it only costs you the price of a piece of solder and loose wire with some wire nuts which most people should have if your working on games. so free compared to board exchange price. So it depends if he wants to have a perfect game from the factory or perfect game on the outside and couple more wires on the inside that nobody is going to see any way.
If your a newb to this then maybe you want to just do a board exchange but you have to get your hands dirty sometime.

Its repairable but thats not the way to do it.
