Looking for a standup outrun shifter. Mine works but doesn't stay in low position. Are these rebuildable?

Yeah, man. Probably a broken spring or missing detent ball. I had a broken spring in mine when I got it. I'll look and see if I can figure out where I got the spring from...

EDIT: Do you mean it won't PHYSICALLY stay in low? Or that it will phyisically shift fine, but the shifter position change just doesn't register with the game? If it's the latter, check your microswitch and wiring... If it's the former, what I was saying applys. I got that spring from here: http://arcadefixit.com/product.sc?productId=573&categoryId=61

It works switch wise fine. You can shift up and then go to low. But have to hold it up. It's like a limp noodle. It won't stay up, just falls down.

if you take the shifter apart there is a bell bearing with a spring behind it. Thats the detent that holds it in one gear or the other. Make sure the ball is there and if so, take it apart and stretch the spring, and reinstall.

i think i have a spare outrun shifter here but not sure of condition..

I have apart. I don't see a spring? I see the ball that that's in the arm. Where's the spring go? Is there a shifter assembly drawing?

There are two balls, with a spring between them, all in a thru hole.

When cleaning two balls fell out with 3 pieces of springs. Does the spring go between the balls in handle?

Thanks for help. It sucks when shipping cost 2x what part does. Been needing pots also , so just gonna order both.

you could use a longer spring for higher compression force. Go to HD or Lowes.

I had the same issue. I used vise grip pliers to squeeze the 2 sides together just a bit. It's been working perfectly since.
