Looking to purchase an oscilloscope so I can get my Omega race running. I purchased one on ebay and the seller sent me one that was different than the one I was bidding on. Let me know what you have an how much.

thanks.

Depends on what signals you are watching. My preferrence by far is an old HP 1631D logic analyzer with digitizing scope. You can use it as a regular scope or capture and hold single traces. Plus the logic analyzer section makes logic repair a snap.

Trillions of these old 1631D's were made and they now go for $200 to $400 range. Make sure you get a full set of pods AND leads AND clips if buying off ebay. The pods are cables that are a few feet long with a 'pod' or connector box on the end. The leads are the wire ends (about 6" long, rainbow colored) that plug into the ends of the pods and allow you to connect to your circuitry. Clips for the leads are required as well. If you buy one without the pods, leads or clips... you would own a large paperweight.

If you're looking at vectors you want something more along the lines of a tek2445... a non-DSO w/ XY mode...

HP1650s are dirt cheap if you need a LA

Thanks for the advice. I am running into trouble repairing my board. Do you think a logic analyzer would do the trick? I haven't ever used one for troubleshooting a circuit, only in lab during college.

For fixing digital circuits, a logic analyzer is by far the most valuable piece of debug hardware. But, to use one of these, you need to have a good deal of knowledge in logic design else it's difficult to know what you're looking at.

I ended up buying an HP 1630D on Ebay for like $65 shipped. It came with all the probes and 3 sets of cables. I actually used it for an actual repair the other day, and damn if I didn't have it, prob would still be hunting for the problem.

That said if you don't know if your monitor works, then yeah you'll need an oscope to tell if the board is working at all.
