I have a System 246 mainboard, untested as I dont have the IO board anymore :-( and a Tekken 4 disc and dongle, not sure if you still need, but will sell all of those parts for $45 shipped OBO

i'm new here... i have a street fighter ii champion, xmen vs street fighter, and tekken 4 set ups...anyway im posting here because im interested in any system 246 disks anyone has

Check your DVD-Rom on your 246 before buying a ton of discs - some were locked to specific games. I have one thats universal and one thats locked to soul calibur. Also, keep in mind you will need the security dongle as well as the disc - it wont boot without the key. Welcome to the forum :)

The "locked dvd-rom" thing is a myth....

I have 3 games for mine - soul calibur 2 and 3, and tekken 4. The drive that I got with soul calibur 3 refuses to boot tekken 4, yet loads sc3 every time fine. I have a total of 3 namco 246 motherboard and dvd-rom combo's, one of which boots all 3 games, and one which ive never tried more than the game it came with. Ill have to test them a bit more to be sureI suppose.

Tekken 4 is the most finnicky System 246. Keep trying different drives and you'll find one that works eventually.

I'm not sure what it is about it that makes it so annoying. SC3, SC2, JAM, Gundam, Basara X, etc all work with nearly any DVD drive. Tekken 4.... not so much.

Also - I have an MK1 with Soundboard if you are still interested.

And if anyone is looking for a System 246 with JVS, I have one of those, also.

No sound pot needed with MKII just a heads up for ya if you found one and that had been a deal breaker for you. Just MKI needs a sound pot, and if it doesn't have one you can buy it at radio shack for $2.49

Goodluck in your search.

Yeah, I got MK2 awhile back, and put a pot in my cab as it was way to loud. My brother in law still kicks my butt, but at least I turn it around in SC!

And Supasaru, it seems the systems are simple to come by - original game disc's w/ dongles, not so easy. I have 2 spare system 246's and 1 spare jvs board myself!

You've certainly got that right - at one point in time, I had 2 100% completely System 246+JVS systems.... but I can only managed to luck into Soul Calibur 2 (purchased at an auction with a cabinet), Gundam SEED vs ZAFT (import) and Basara X (imported)...

SC2 is up on Ebay -

You can find Basra X and Capcom Fighting JAM, too.

Are you aware of Namco's sales policy on these games? If you have a broken dongle to trade (purchase available with TRADE OF BROKEN DONGLE ONLY) you can pay $250 to get a new dongle.... w..t...f....

And before you ask - no, they don't reprogram the old dongle. You get NOS from a warehouse and from what I understand it's only for Namco games - SC2, SC3, Tekken, etc. They won't sell you a new dongle for Capcom Fighting JAM, Basara X, etc.

Ouch, I payed way less than that for the SC2 dvd, dongle, and a whole 246 system! Last I heard, namco wanted $500 for a new dvd + dongle, and a few hundred for a dvd drive (even though its just a cheapo $20 pc drive that they spent 5min flashing a custom firmware to) Kindve insane pricing if you ask me, but of well, thats part of why arcades cant afford to stay open anymore.

That's what I keep trying to tell you - these drives have no special firmware. Both of my 246's are playing Basara X and Soul Calibur 2 with a $20 ASUS drive from Fry's - as an added bonus, I just copy my original game discs and it plays DVD-R's better than the originals. Tekken 4 is the only game that you really have to fiddle with to get working with an aftermarket drive - but it will work. I think the model I got Tekken 4 to boot on (I no longer have Tekken 4, though) was a Toshiba.

Every inquiry I've sent to Namco says they don't sell games anymore. They'll only swap you a bad dongle + $200 for a working dongle.

How much did you pay for your SC2, minus the drive?
