Guys, the game i'm looking to start a collection with is Demolition Derby by midway.
The upright would probably be best, but i wouldn't turn down a fair priced cocktail that worked.
I know this game may not be the best place to start as a noob, but when i think arcade, this is the game i think of.
I'm going to keep my options open for other games by watching ebay, classifieds here and craigs, but this is the one that i'm willing to go most out of my way for.
And i'm thinking that if i start looking now, maybe one will pop up in the next few months.

I'm in NJ not far from the shore, and would prefer to come pick up whatever you have.

I have a 4 player island that has no game board in it. It was one of my favorite games growing up, which is why i bought it. I knew it would be a chore to get the parts to get it working (which i haven't yet), but i knew I might not have the chance to get one again. Mine is not for sale (although it probably should be), but i think tec9 has both the 2 player and 4 player. He was selling the 2 player not long ago. I'm not sure if he still has it, but you might want to ask him.

Thanks mike, tec9 has already stated that he took a deposit on his machine.
If he didn't, i'd be playing it right now instead of fooling around on the internet.:D

A PA dealer he told me he could get me one for 12 bills, but he only does restored, basically it was $300 for the machine and $899 to restore it.
Haven't completely ruled that out, but at this point seems to be a bit more than i wanted to spend right now on one single game.

I just picked up a 4 player. It is complete but the monitor needs a rebuild and the board could use a tune up most likely. I t works but I am sending it out for repair anyway.

never seen one before I picked this one up.

Ordered all the art and I will be doing a restore at some point soon.

Mike (masco73) has a four player cocktail for sale in New York. :)

I also saw this one, haven't contacted him yet because i've always known upstate NY to be very far.
But your post prompted me to google it, and now i'm just confused on the location. I'll PM him to see if he still has it and see actual location.

Saw this one in google searches, but as far as i see there was no contact info, i figured it was sold.

Yes, I believe it was sold about a year ago. Not sure what it went for, but I'm sure it was worth every penny. He had another one he was going to restore, but I think he ended up selling that one too.
I might just convert mine to MAME. It would be slightly less work, plus I would not have to worry abouy any board issues. I'd rather just get a board and wiring harness for it, but they cost way too much.

Can the table be converted to mame and use the steering wheels and shifters with 4 players on DD?
If so, that sounds like a good plan until you can find the real parts.

I spoke to someone at ultimarc.com, and they said yes. They have a part called a U-HID which works with the shifters and steering wheels. One day I will get around to trying this on my machine..... one day....

ttt
Found a cocktail, but at this point between cost of travel or shipping and the machine itself, i'm going to hold out for one a bit cheaper and/or a bit more local.
So still looking, upright preferred.

1977 Chicago Coin Demolition Derby 2-Player Arcade Work
Have you seen the DD2 in wisconsin that's on eBay?

Thanks daddyboo, but i'm looking for the midway version.
I check ebay all the time, haven't seen anything for sale, could you show me a link? Maybe you typed in something different than me to search.

I appreciate the help.
Thanks,
Joe

Where was the game located?

Thanks,
It was masco's from this forum.
Located in Upstate NY.
About 5 hours from me.
It is very tempting, but at his current price point with traveling expenses or shipping, it would be over a grand.
Seems like a pretty nice cocktail, just a bit out of budget for only one game, a game that many here during my billion searches i've determined to be fairly unreliable.
By no means am i saying that it's not worth his asking price because i honestly don't know, it's just outside my spending comfort zone.

Hey Joe,
If you search "1977 Chicago coin demolition derby" you should be able to find the eBay listing I mentioned. I know it's not the Midway you are searching for, but still might be a good pick up, and not clear
across the US from you :)
Best of luck,
Cullen

Thanks,
But as far as i can tell the chicago DD is black and white, not sure i'm into that.
I did find the other one on ebay, but that is also a chicago unit, and wisconsin is a bit for to travel for a version that is not on top of my list.
The midway version is what i played on the boardwalk when i was a kid, that's kinda was inspires my interest in it.

I do appreciate the tips though.
Thanks,
Joe
