I am looking for some RAM for a Taito Jungle Hunt PCB. Where's the best place to find it cheap and what do I need?

Looks like RAM 2114-7, 2114-2, TMM2016-P, and perhaps ???

I finally got this PCB to work... it powers on, but no sound, no coin, no start, just the demo routine. It worked for about an hour and from there it powers on to a flashing blue screen.

Making some progress!

No clue about the ram but I don't believe the game makes a sound in demo mode. From what I have heard it is well documented that taito boards not using original wiring have issue coining up for some reason. This can be solved by crediting the game via the test switch.

Jungle Hunt - Coin / Test switch issue

The pinouts I have show no test switch for the Jungle hunt PCB and there is no freeplay option on the DIPs. How are folks getting this to work then?

Maybe I'm using the wrong term but jungle hunt does definitely have a test/service switch or what ever it's called. I know for certain because this is how my machine is wired. If you haven't looked there yet check crazykong.com for the pin out. If jungle hunt is not listed check jungle king as it is the same game.

correction

It has a service switch which works fine. The coin switches are not working though. I am going to just hook the service switch to my coin button for now.

Battery?

I just read page 4 of the manual. It mentions that if the battery is low the coin switches won't work. I am guessing the battery is normally on the original power supply board and since I am using a JAMMA setup this is why the coin switches don't work.

So to anyone else using a JH PCB with a JAMMA setup wire up the service button to your coin switch and you'll be in business. :)

Find the pin corresponding to the coin input on the edge connector of the board. They are on either side of the board, two pins down from the key. You should be able to momentarily connect either of these to ground and see the game coin up.

If it does not, something is wrong with your board circuitry.

If it does, stick a voltmeter on these and watch the voltage as you press the coin inputs on your coin door. You should see the voltage drop from +5V to 0V back to +5V. If it does not, something is wrong with the adapter or the wiring.

At connector G (the edge connector):

component solder
--------- ------
coin 2 pin 8 pin j coin 1

The coin circuitry is not real complex. There are a few chips that could fail that would keep your pulses from being gated through. You need to start with the tests above to start narrowing something down.

This board still sounds like it has some other issues.

New RAM

Well I've got new RAM installed and it does seem to fix the issues with the text and some graphics. This is especially true on the intro screen where the 'Jungle Hunt' title appears on the screen.

Unfortunately, the graphics overall are not better and I think I need new graphics EPROMS. Damn!
