WTB Gauntlet Legends Power supply

Any computer parts store? As far as I remember, it is a normal computer power supply. I can't remember if it is AT or ATX, but if it is AT and all you can find is ATX, you can do a jumper mod on the ATX power connecter to bypass the soft power switch requirement...

He'll have to build his own 9 pin molex power connector, won't he?

I think its an AT is that right? Is it hard to build a power connector?

I don't know which it is. When mind died I wimped out and got a free replacement from the manufacturer. :)

It's not hard to build a power connector; you just have to have the connector, the tools to crimp the wires to the pins, and the information as to which wires goes to which spot in the connector.

So I need a male/female connector that has 12 pins? like the one that is on my power supply? Here is a link to one that I found.

I just cut the connectors on the new one off and figure out where the wires go in my new connector? I think thats what you are saying.

Yeah, more or less. I sidestepped all of that mess by getting a new original supply and only had to cut off one power connector and replace it with what my game was expecting.

It looks like the game wiring in my cab expected a 12 pin connector to mate with this:

But in order to get this 12 pin connector, the power supply had 2 9 pin connectors that fed into the 12 pin connector like this:

I don't see a reason you couldn't construct this yourself but you need to take careful records of exactly what wires you've got now and where they are going and reconstruct the same thing on the other end.

Like I said, I was lazy and just got a drop-in new replacement (for free; I lucked out but it still needed a bit of modification). For maybe $60-$70 (delivered) you can get a drop-in replacement or one that's close. The one you listed was $43+shipping; for the $20 difference I personally would opt to just buy the right thing in the first place.

Now if you had one for $25 + shipping I'd probably spend the time to modify the connectors myself.

Just make sure the watts and amps line up with the original...

Pull the old one out, take it with you to a computer parts store (like Fry's) and try to find one with the same specs and connectors. I had some local guy have a PS problem with his and he bought one new at Fry's and put it in...

That would certainly be the path of least resistance if they have one!

It's certainly doable with many power supplies but nothing beats the convenience of already having the right connectors there. :)

I just realized you are both from texas. I was born and raised in Dallas. Somehow I live in Indiana now. I don't think we have fry's up here. There might be one in Indy.

Anyways you both have helped me a ton. At first I thought I may not be able to get a replacement. The guy who fixed my GL may have one he can sell me. If not I'll move to plan B. Which is find a replacement or make one.

By the way the guy who fixed GL would not give me list of errors for the numbers on the LCD. He basically said its a trade secret. He is not a hobbyist. But I tried.

Glad to have helped if only in a small way.

Check on Ebay -- I was able to find a couple of sources of those power supplies.

That's a bummer about him not sharing those codes. He should at least tell you what was wrong with yours -- that'll tell us what a '4' is.

The pcb board and the graphics card were bad. It only showed 4 a few times. We he put it on the bench it showed a 6. I forget what you told me the 6 means off the top of my head. There was a lot of corrosion on my pcb board. I know that is true because even the bolts on the side of my cabinet are rusty. It must have been stored somewhere very damp.

The guy definitely gave me the impression he knew his shit. He is a pretty serious individual. He fixed it while I waited which I was not expecting. Im sure he will see me again.

6 and 8 are hard disk and graphics card problems.

Sounds like you've got a great repair guy there!

Glad everything turned out well for you, Mr. Borat. :)

BTW, toplessz here has replacement graphics cards for this game if you ever need them.
