WTB: G07 CBO chassis to save a badly burned and abused tube...

This poor tube needs a cheap chassis! I'm not looking to pay much, so I'm not asking for much. I would be throwing a deluxe rebuild kit at whatever comes my way: new flyback, capkit, VR, HOT, & fuse if I remember Bob's kit correctly. Most would toss this tube, but I want to try and do the right thing and save it from the trash..ola Shipping to 78613

Come on, points for using trash..ola in a sentence. Feel good about yourself for 2011. Instant Karma. Loose weight. Wait, make that 'lose' weight. Impress your friends! Help the earth! Save the arcades!!

My bench monitor has much worse mspac burn on it. Its actually burned twice. Works fine for a test monitor, I dont even notice the burn anymore.

The FBO is the 13 inch version, still looking for a CBO.

This tube is burned multiple times. Obviously the maze is really bad, and that's burned in two different screen positions. The intro banner 'in the lights' is also burned in; and to be more specific it's Ms. Pac-Man burn. And it was shot three times with a BB/Pellet gun (not by me). Poor tube, the seal is still good so it'll work. I am curious about the image it will put out.

Still looking...come on...instant fuzzy goodness, feel good about helping a collector, put a dusty part to good use, clear a little space, parts will be bought from Bob Roberts when I order his deluxe rebuild kit. See what mystery image this tube puts out when I'm done, I promise I'll post a pic!

I'm pretty sure I have one sitting in storage.
I'll try and go by there later today and pick it up.
$20 shipped via paypal or $10 if you're going to the auction this weekend and I can carry it with me.

Once the original poster has their needed chassis, I could use another working chassis and know of another collector looking for one for his Sinistar restoration.

Alexcc gets my payment. I'll update this when I get it working. It will be an ugly duckling for sure, but...it's my duckling!

Well, beggars can't be choosers. I got my low priced chassis and it looked like it was left outside to rot. Rusted components, a broken corner, dirt caked around the neckboard monitor socket. It made my eyes water as I got around it. So, I did some forum digging and found that 409, a brush, and a long spray with a garden hose should make it look better. And it did help...I can get near it now. Now I can tell the small fuse is blown, which probably led to its sorry fate. I've just ordered Bob's $40 deluxe kit, now time to see if I am just throwing my money away at this beaten up monitor. No hard feelings, I'd do business with the member again. From the $21 price, they ate an $11 shipping charge. That's a bargain in my book.

All cleaned up! See the whiteish rings around the components? I don't know what is up with that. It's going to get a couple of days to dry in the garage after a ten minute forced air dry with my leaf blower.

that board is still in good condition compared to some i've seen. just take a dremel or wire wheel to the metal cover and it will clean right up.

for the whiteish rings i use denatured alcohol and a toothbrush.

Well, that was the cleaned up picture, so thanks! It did turn out a lot better. Honestly, it'll be fun to work on this. I just finished going over the neck and chassis with about 20 q-tips dipped in alchol and I got rid of the rings. Looks like it was in a place with a lot of smokers. Anyhow, it's all cleaned up. I think it was given a cap kit at some point during its life. It'll get another along with a new hot, vr, flyback, etc. when Bob's order gets here.

I get the same rings around components once my chassis dry also. It's just residue from cleaning. Sometimes I place the chassis in the dishwasher to clean them. I don't use detergent either.

The residue will come off if you try to remove it with a tooth brush and some alcohol.

I think I'll start a new thread on this in the monitor section, unless I can get a mod to move this thread there. Anyone?

Parts are on the way, and the rings are cleaned up. The 409 really helped out, and after the alcohol, it smells just like a regular PCB. I am worried about the rusty resistors on the neck board and the rusty sandbox resistors where I measure the B+. I guess I'll just rebuild it, do the regular checks, and power it up and see what happens. I have another G07 to look over once I'm done, so that will help.

FYI, I get that whitish residue from using Simple Green, but have never seen it from using Grease Lighting, plus Grease Lighting does a better job (IMHO) of removing the gook. I use it along with hot watch and the chassis looks great afterwards. :)

Looks like it came out of the cabinet in the attached picture. The poor cabinet was leaning to the left last time I saw it....

The parts came in, now to start the rebuild. Today we all have a nice sunny afternoon here in Austin, my Ipod is all charged up. Have motivation, will work in the garage.

A happy ending, actually is one of my strongest tubes, color wise. To bad about the burn and the three pellet/BB shot chips. For a test monitor, it's just fine. I repaired one of the broken corners with paperclips, soldering directly to the ground trace. It had a badly done cap kit sometime in its life, pads were removed in some cases, so I had to solder to the trace or a nearby component on the same trace.
