I am looking for my first Pin and this is my list:

1. South Park
2. Simpsons (either)
3. Family Guy
4. Lord of the Rings
5. Joust (Cocktail)
6. Adam's Family

I heard that South Park and the Original Simpsons are good starter pins (reliable) but I am not sure about the rest...

Thanks!!

What is your budget like for pinball? Of the games you listed I'd suggest either LOTR or TSPP, but they can be pricy. TAF is a good game, but it can get a little bit boring if it's your only pinball machine. I agree with what others have said, South Park just isn't that great, especially if you have the money for one of the others. Personally, I'd look for some budget machines, but I'm broke (in terms of pinball collectors). I look for games like FT, JM, DM, JD, WCS. If you don't mind going 80s Whirlwind, ES, PB or HS might be good options. For the price of a LOTR you could probably get two of the machines I've listed and have some money left over.

I haven't set a budget... Depends on the Machine. I guess I would like to stay under 2k though.

Sorry, other than the abbreviations for the pins I listed I have no idea what the others stand for yet?

good luck finding a joust lol...never saw 1 for sale or a defender for that matter...

I think I saw one a couple years ago. I heard they are hard to find but you never know... How is defender? Is that head to head too? Are there any other head to head that you would recommend.

Thanks. Commerce Township, MI (near Novi and W. Bloomfield). where is Union City?

His name here is pmwolf, I'll email him this thread. Union city is about 2hrs from us 94 to 69 pretty much.

I have a dolly parton for sale, but I kindve doubt your interested in that one :)

For under $2k you can give up on Lord of the Rings, The Simpsons Pinball Party and The Adams Family. A lot of the games I listed would be in your budget. I'm not looking at it now but I'll try to spell out some good options: World Class Soccer, Fish Tales, Jurassic Park, Tales From The Crypt, Johnny Mnemonic, Judge Dredd, Demolition Man, Doctor Who, Congo and The Shadow. A little bit older but still worth looking at would include games like: Whirlwind, High Speed and Pin-Bot

I think I like Tales from the Crypt out of that group... What do Simpsons PP, LoTR and Adams Family go for?

Simpsons PP - Averages about $3500.
Addams - Over $3k lately.
LoTR - Over $3500.

Knock off a couple hundred for heavily routed or project machines.

Joust - Wow...the last one I saw for sale went for well OVER $4k. That game is getting crazy. It is rare and desirable...

South Park - Preferences vary...so if you liked it, then don't worry about what others think. Having said that, I really don't like the game. It has too much stop-and-go action, and I'm more of a "flow" guy. Again...your preferences may vary, and I'm not the law. I like the theme, and the quotes will probably make you smile. I just don't like how EVERY shot stops the ball. Hit Kenny. Ball stops. Game says a few quotes. Ball pops out. Hit Chef....ball stops...quote...ball comes out. Hit Cartman...ball stops...quote...wait...ball. Hit toilet...ball stops...Etc etc etc.

I just can't get into a rhythm on that one.

Union City - It is in the middle of nowhere. About 20 minutes south of Battle Creek. The arcade collecting dude that lives there is pretty dang awesome, though.

His email is: [email protected].

For sale, he's got a Rollergames, Jurassic Park, Bride of Pinbot, Close Encounters, and possibly a Centaur 2. All would be under $2k.

Also...he's me.

Defender is NOT head-to-head.

The only other ones I can think of off the top of my head are some Soccer/Football game by Alvin G (Super-rare), and that really bizarre triple Jungle Lord that some guy put together (one of a kind). I think you are better off looking elsewhere unless you've got upwards of $5k to spend.

My suggestion? Jurassic Park. It was the second game I ever bought, and I still love it. Nice ruleset, cool toy, shaker motor, great sounds, and a shot layout that is VERY similar to Addams Family and Funhouse.

I picked the ones I did because I've played them and like them. Any others I would have to play a while first. This will probably be my only pin (with the exception of adding a head to head cocktail if I can ever find one). I definitely want one that is low maintenance and reliable and I don't know pins that well.

Sorry for bombing this thread.

Abbreviations that were previously listed:

FT = Fish Tales
JM - Johnny Mnemonic
DM = Demolition Man
JD = Judge Dredd
WCS = World Cup Soccer

ES = Earthshaker
HS = High Speed
PB = Pinbot.

The dude that listed these is pretty much right on. Lots of bang for the buck here.

Of those, I absolutely LOVE JM, JD, and Demo Man. WCS is pretty awesome too, but rising in price. (As they all are).

FT doesn't do much for me, but that's because I'm not a big fishing fan. It is also from the early era of DMDs, and the ruleset seems limited to me.

ES kind of bores me (I've had two). A buddy of mine LOVES Whirlwind...but I think you can get a DMD that is similarly priced that would be much better and have longer legs.

I'm done now. I swear.
