WTB: Discs of Tron upright or environmental

Depends on location. I saw an upright sit for weeks listed in CA for $800. Then of course there are the edots that have sold for $4000 but most of those have gone to the one guy in Hawaii.

Sounds like he has an EDOT fetish! I still find this very bizzare.... Heaven forbid if anything catastrophic happens to him or his house, and in turn, depletes some Edots from existence....

Dang, I keep hearing about DOTs that were available but now that I want one, they're gone from the planet or the price skyrockets. If you see any more in Cali or anywhere else continental US, hit me up, I can ship pretty cheap.

A water damaged one sold a few months ago for $1500:

Another one was listed for $2800, and I do believe it went over the $2K mark when sold (can't confirm now), I was in contact with the guy and he told me he wouldn't take less.

A few months before that, one that needed a considerable amount resto work sold for a little over $1000, but this was before the movie came out and it was rough.

That being said, I wouldn't let mine go for less than $2K and it's in nice shape but not perfect/mint.

That $600-800 was a long time ago, if you're holding out for those prices, you may be waiting for a long time.. or you might just have to get a lucky deal.

Good luck, it's an awesome game!!

Yes, right during the Tron hype I would have expected a few to go high. Seems like I've seen other examples go somewhat lower all the way to waaaay lower. I've also seen regular Trons go over $1500 but I wouldn't put their standard value there. I'm not saying everyone is wrong and everyone should sell to me for $600, I know that the market places the value. I'm just hoping to find a good deal rather than pay a premium (like everyone else around here is trying to do of course). Considering I've never paid more than $400 for a cab, going to $1000 for me is a huge premium. :)

I believe there were two Dots that just sold recently for $650 and $400ish...
I believe one was even a CL deal....

Me personally, I would never pay over 1k for an upright..... It just doesn't have the *mystique* as the enviromental. Plus, the fact that I played "discs" mostly in a Enviromental cab....

Cowbell, there was a fellow in Des Plaines that had one (Edot).... Not sure if it sold or not, but he was very firm on his price! At least I tried.....

That's the problem with them, once they enter our basements, no one wants to let them go. I need to find one out in the wild or find someone with a spare.

Thanks for the link. I replied to the email to see some pics and get a description of the condition. <Debbie Downer> Probably a $15,000 unit. </Debbie Downer>

More Cowbell - Phineas Foo just posted one over in the FS section - looks good.

If you decide to, and need good shipping i would suggest STL shipping - door to door service - i have two cockpits being shipped in the last month (so similar weights, of course EDOT is the heavier) and looking at around 5 bills each.

What about uprights with a squawk & talk added to provide speech? You get the benefits of the added sound effects, with out the huge footprint that the sit-down EDOT takes up...

That's the route I went, and I've been very happy with it...

Sprout - very interesting - i have been thinking about DOT isnt the same without the voice! Was that hard to add? Is it just a plug off the PCB?

Jonathan,

It's a bit of work - especially if you want to "do it right" and have reliable wiring and connections throughout. I did mine several years ago, and believe I referenced the following as a guide at the time:

There are also some KLOV threads discussing this you may want to review:

The hardest part will be finding the video game version of the Squawk & Talk board; the pinball version is significantly different in that it has the power circuit all on-board. I know many have said that you can't use a pinball version, but I suspect it could be done as long as you can get the board powered correctly - I've never tried however.

I otherwise picked up a -5v power board, an extra volume pot specifically to control the voice volume (mounted it up front near the original, so I can easily access it via the coin door), and picked up a dual audio-amp board. All of these come from other comparable Midway games, and are all easily/cheaply available. Again - S&T board is where you'll have to hunt, assuming there's some reason a pinball version can't be used once it's powered appropriately.

The overall effect is very awesome, and it adds a lot of atmosphere to the game - it's just not the same without voice. If you can scare up the parts, definitely recommend doing it.

I thought the value of these would go down once the movie passed through theaters and people started to forget about them again. The day that $1,000 won't buy a DOT in need of work is the day I need to give up the dream. Of well, there's always the Tron pin coming out soon. :)
