I am told the Cocktail boards have different roms, attract mode, etc. I need the main game pcb board (I have the others in varied states). If you have one and it works drop me a pm with price etc. and thanks.

The cocktail version needs the RED rom set
(...stickers are actually red in color )

These were the latest version available
and work on BOTH the cocktail and the Upright.

So if you have the red roms, you are already good to go.

Thanks Steph. I picked up my holy grail today and I believe I have the rom board, along with the video board and sound board? I appear to be missing the large (est) board, which is the cpo board? I have pictures and will attempt to attach them to this post. Any help would be great thanks (and I thought the biggest concern was not that they were update, but that the red chips allowed the screen to flip between player one and player two?)

Here are the pics (I may need to make them smaller in size).

The good news is that you appear to have the red rom set already
(...as indicated by the red stripe on the eprom labels )

The bad news is that you are missing the main CPU board,
and the power board (...which fits on the square metal plate
next to the sound board )

If you use a switcher and modify the power wiring harness
you don't need the power board.

.... but you definitely need the CPU board.

(...and you need the "newer" Defender CPU board )

Hope this helps.

Steph huge help thanks! I was having a hard time sorting out how to identify cocktail vs. Full size boards and that link solved my woes. My phone translated CPU as COO perhaps to many control panel searches:) now. Is the power board the board with the two heat sinks and what looks like a giant yellow capacitor? I will take a pic later but I found this board on the bottom of the cocktail and assumed it mounted there and not on the side of the cab. I see there is an untested CPU board on ebay, does any one habe a tested working one for sale here? If so drop me a pm :) thanks again Steph.

Sorry this took so long.

So this was the board I found loose in the bottom of the cab, and this I believe is the power board. I am currently searching for a Cpu board, though I have one lead. Let me know if you have one, and thanks again for the help. What else should I know about these old Williams Cabinets?

Yes, that's the power board.
(... but you'll need the wiring harness ).

Like I said, you might be better off to use a [known-working] switcher
rather than gamble with 30 yr old power supply.

Steph

Test that power supply and rebuild it, if necessary. A rebuilt Williams power supply is just about bullet-proof and the cost to rebuild it is far less than buying a switcher kit and switcher. It looks like you are missing the sound board as well.

Thanks again for the responses, I have heard that the older power supplies are prefered. What risk do you feel I run with the older power supply? How extensive of a repair is it to rebuild one? I think having org. Equipment is preferred for me but not if I can upgrade functionality etc. Thanks again.
