I have my first arcade project and one issue I need to tackle is a couple of broken legs on some rom chips for my Galaga board. I figured I could find some off of old PC boards, but there are none.

Anybody have any they want to part with for cheap?

A lot of people suggest using the clippings of the legs from cap kits you've installed, or resistors, etc. (Basically use the legs from other components.)

This thread has a TON of great info on repairing old chips that have missing legs.

http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=177683

Basically, Dremel the bad chip casing near the leg to give an area to work with, solder a new "leg" using capacitor/resistor lead clippings (stronger than chip legs), "install" the newly repaired chip and legs into a socket (effectively giving a new lease on life and preventing undue stress on the newly repaired leg/solder joint)... Profit!

Edit: Some great info I just found in another thread was to place the broken chip into the new socket, then stick the replacement lead into the new socket at the broken pin position (bend lead if necessary to hit the area you Dremeled, being in the socket hole will hold the lead against the broken pin allowing you to solder it without needing 4 hands.
