194 = 161 wedge as it is 14 Volts

194 is actually an automotive bulb and works just fine. You can save yourself some time and maybe even some money if you just go to your local auto parts store and pick up the 194's.
Walmart has them also.

If you want them quick, you can buy them just about anywhere... Standard midway coindoors like ms pac, tron, etc use the 194 wedge base bulbs. You can get them cheaper by ordering them online, but if you want them ASAP, you can get them at walmart, etc in the automotice section. You can also get them at most automotive stores such as pep boys, auto zone, etc.

WAIT.... are your bulbs working, just dim???
Measure how much voltage is going to them on the coin door. if it is only ~6 Volts, then that is why your bulbs are dim.

You will need the 555 bulbs as mentioned then.

Yes they are working but old and I would like to have them brighter. I would measure the voltage BUT I don't own a voltage meter at the moment.

Can I get the 555 bulbs at an auto part store or Walmart?

I doubt it. Walmart only carries them because they work for 12V car lamps.
You can maybe try a Radio Shack.
Best bet is to get a member to send you a couple, if that is all that you need.

I doubt old is the issue, it is probably just the wrong bulb type installed.

Thanks, now to try and land a couple of these bad boys!

Just get the 194's. New ones will be plenty bright in your cab.

Trust me, old is the issue here.... I've had old dim ones in my games and replaced them with new ones and they were much brighter.

Just checked and I have 555 bulbs.
I'd really like to know what voltage is coming out at the coin door.
If you stick these 6.3 Volt bulbs in and it is pumping out 12 Volts, they will burn up.

If you are going to be in the arcade hobby or just have a couple, a multimeter is a must! They are pretty cheap also.

PM me your address and I will ship you out two 555 6.3 Volt bulbs.

Will do, thanks!

The manual says they are 12V.

Yep....and using a 555 in it's place will definately be bright (and incredibly HOT....as in potentially melting/burning/scorching the plastic 25¢ lense). Plus, they'll only last.....maybe an hour or two before blowing.

Thanks for the heads up!

Related question:

I have some games that have type 44 bulbs in the coin door, but they also have silver coatings on the tip of the bulb (to diffuse the light?).

Can anyone tell me where I can get these?

thanks
