Recently picked up a Red Baron that's had it's front removed. Someone attempted to convert and then stopped. Trying to convert it back to it's former Glory. RB #381.
If you have an Atari Battlezone Open Faced kit I think this is what I need. Full story here: www.zinfer.com/redbaron.htm
Thanks for looking.

I would think you can find one as most people with an open face BZ would want to convert it back. I think its mostly wood. You probably could make one. I crushed a water damaged BZ last month and I don't think it had any unique metal pieces. If there were, I probably would have pulled them and saved them.

It had the upper Marquee bracket and the lower bezel bracket.
And if you downloaded the open face kit you'd see there's much more to it than sawing a couple sticks up.
Everyone seems to think it's easy. The seller was telling me how simple it was too. Those that haven't done it or tried to make it.
Guys. I've done cabinetry and woodworking. Stop saying it's easy without any plans and without any measurements.

Heh... glad you said that. :beerchug:

I was thinking to myself I must be "the suck" at this hobby because I couldn't see how it'd be easy to make the non-periscope kit? Good to see I'm not the only one.

Post over on RGVAC too. I've had luck posting there, it seems like a few of the old timers lurk there so you never know.

Well, it's not really appropriate to be 'Grr'ing' with folks trying to help you. I appreciate the help and input. I was just pointing out that you can't just 'imagine' something in your head and it magically becomes tangent and accurate.
The only thing easy to build is something that you already have as a template.
MrBill is right that there should be pieces out there that someone wants to convert back. My problem with that is that, as the seller had said, he just threw the old pieces away in the garbage.

To build it, you need 7 pieces of wood, cut glass, 3 brackets, paper bezel and t molding(well a few more small pieces of wood, but they are just mounting blocks).

The only hard part would be the paper bezel. You have the marquee and the monitor shelf. The top bracket it probably common, the lower bracket I might have or could be made.

All you would really need is someone to trace the outside. All the inner wood is not that critical. Red baron upright is not that hard to find(I have one). I have poor wood skills and I think if you put a gun to my head, I could make one..

I know a guy local to me who has and open face BZ and 2 red baron UR in bad shape(bottom has fallen out of 1 or both mostly stripped, but he claims to have the boards). But he is tough to deal with and it all smells like cat piss..

Heh... seems like everything is easy to find in California. :dunno:

IMHO, I don't see the metal retainers being easy to make. The top one has a nice smooth shape to it. The middle one is sorta S-like. And the bottom one is pretty large. If you can make those yourself then you should get into the bracket business. :) (I'd buy a set for sure!)

It took me a year or so to find a nice smooth, undamaged top bracket for our Battelzone kit. In that time of looking though, I ran across 2 or 3 full kits being offered for sale... no one was willing to just sell the top bracket(which I don't blame them for).

You'll eventually find a full kit.
