wtb: Atari TX-1

I always wondered if a TX can be diassembled in pieces or is it one unit? I haven't seen one in 20+years..

Good luck on your quest Jon!

please email me/pm me if you have one available for sale.

What a monster of a game to deal with:

Don't recall seeing one in an arcade back in the day. I saw one on an op raid a long time ago, but had no interest. I wonder, does it come apart to make it easier to move?

If you can find one, I would think it should go fairly cheap because of low demand because most people can't or don't want to deal with it.

Joe, there was a 'mall' arcade in Villa Park that had one. I believe it was called "Just for Fun?" Anyways, they had one towards the front. If memory serves me, the thing always had issues. I recall the left monitor colors were washed out real bad. The last couple of times I visited, the machine was off...

Apparently, these boardsets are very problematic through my research...

Now that I think about it, that was the only one I've ever come across.

I've got one and it is big. It does come apart, kindof. The seat / marquee thing comes off, leaving the three monitor monster part. This way it can at least go through doors. But the seat part is kind of flimsy when it's not attached (IIRC). I haven't looked an mine for a long time.

I had two of them for a long time. I operated both of them believe it or not. I even loaned one to a friend who operated it in an inner-city arcade in the worst part of Indianapolis. But I think I sold one to Archer...or maybe it was a Japanese collector...can't remember.

It's a good game that earns really well. But it's basically just Pole Position 1 with 3 monitors. And my memory tells me that the graphics aren't even quite as good as Pole. But it is an experience to play and would be a great addition to any and every game room.

I agree that it SHOULD be cheap based on how big it is. But mine isn't...LOL. If someone has the room for it and likes it, they probably value it pretty highly based on rarity and fun. I really should get mine in the museum. It would take up too much room, though.

I can't say I had much trouble keeping mine running. The monitors are Sanyos if I recall. It certainly isn't any harder to keep running than a Pole Position...LOL!

They're not really that hard to move & break down well enough. The game is still a beast though; it certainly isn't stair-friendly.

They actually seem to be fairly reliable, I have a couple boardsets and they all work -- I'd hate to have to dig into one of the boards as the ICs are really tightly packed. It originally shipped with Amplifone monitors, so something else will surely be hacked into it by now -- mine has WGs.

I need one of the opto boards from the pedal assembly (looks similar, though larger, than the regular Atari opto boards & is labeled as TX-1). My chances are near nil in digging one up, but building one wouldn't be that tough at least..

Seen two of these for sale here locally and they went for basically nothing due to size. I highly recommend you grab the first one you find as they usually get parted out and broken down.

Just picked up one a couple days ago. And yes they are heavy. Have no room left at the house so CJ (Oregonarcade) and i took it to Seans (Gozer) house to let him take the measurements and we get free storage. The serial number on it is 001

I thought TX-1's were notoriously flaky...at least I got that impression from Gary at Funspot (though they now have a working one on the floor)
