WTB: Arkanoid - Rom and MCU set

I have a bad TAITO ARKANOID board with known good chips in the sockets.

I swapped all the socketted chips from the bad board onto the known good TAITO ARKANOID board trying to find out what the problem was. Never figured out what the problem was. All I figured out was that all the socketted chips worked good. So, I swapped good chips back on to the bad ARKANOID board.

Ended up removing two surface mounted chips from the bad ark board. I needed a practice board. (First time for everything.) But, left all the chips in the sockets.

PM me if you are interested.

I can post board pics if you like.

P.S. I also have a GOOD ARKANOID board and a cheap, plastic WICO spinner I can part with, if you are interested.

Please let me know if you are interested.

I can post board pics if you like.

Check with mattosborn...He's been working on mods to Arkanoid recently, so he would likely be able to burn you the eproms you seek :)

Burning the eproms is simple ... but unless you also program a new MCU (MC68705P5 @ U14), it won't play due to the protection that is in that chip. That chip must match the roms and it's different on regular ark vs. tournament. The microcontroller has TTL logic plus a small amount of programmed bits that work in sync to decode the matched roms for execution. Programming these chips isn't the same as burning the 27256's on the rest of the board.

Sorta like a Sega/Capcom suicide CPU+battery but not as bad since they don't self-destruct :)

Getting the dead board from tyranix95 is probably your best bet. In addition to the EPROMs and MCU, you also should swap the three color PROMs. They are also different between regular Arkanoid and Tournament Arkanoid (but not by much).
If that doesn't work out let me know and I'll see what I have here.
