Anyone have a line on anti-static bags big enough for PCBs? I have a coulple I would like to ship and a few that need to be stored. I really don't want to have to buy 1000 of them from some online shop if I can help it.

TFYT.

While anti-static bags are by far the best way to go, a stop-gap solution you can use in a pinch is aluminum foil. Just wrap the board in it. Just have to ensure that when you remove the foil, you don't tear it and leave a bit behind.

EDIT: and for obvious reasons, don't use foil to wrap boards with batteries...

Anyone know the max size I would need?

This may be a silly question, but how big are the biggest boards out there? These bags come in all shapes and sizes, so I am thinking of gettng 2 sizes, one for PCBs and one for misc. boards such as sound boards, etc.

Any thoughts?

Maybe a 12x18 for PCBs?

??x?? for others?

The CPU board for Missile Command is about 12x19. Which means you need a bag at least 13 x 20 to hold it.

I bet they don't get too much bigger than this one, not only because they become hard to work with, but because if a board is too big, you start to have too much flex and the board starts to flop a bit when you move it. As it is, the cocktail cabinet for Missile Command has a foam block in the middle of where the board sits, to support the center of the board.

Computer boards can get pretty big. The boards that go into some of the machines I have are right at 15" square. CPU boards for another machine are 18"x15". So antistatic bags this large definitely do exist...

That said, I think the biggest board I've ever seen in an arcade machine was either Missile Command, Tempest, or 720. Most Jamma boards are small enough to fit into fairly standard PC motherboard bags, as are many pinball MPU boards.

Bigger bags

Uline has 18x20, 18x24 and 20x20. They aren't super cheap and you get them by the gross (250 for the 18" and 500 for the 20" larger bags)

I may just go ahead and get the 18x24 and some smaller bags (size TBD). I am curious if anyone else would be interested in getting some. I don't really need 250 large or 1000 small bags. Thinking I might just sell them for cost + shipping.

Anyone interested?

I bought my 18" x 24" bags from him, staticbags.com is his web site. I thought his prices were reasonably and it was a while ago but I can't remember having any issues with the transaction. My Chicago Coins Demolition Derby is the longest board I've come across and it is just shy of 24" long but for everything else they have been plenty big.

Some, like the Pole Position II and Star Wars boards are not only long, but double (or even triple) stacked, making them thicker, requiring a bigger bag than a Centiped board which is about the same size, but only single-stacked...
