WSF - multi-williams FPGA board ROM update to v1.09

Hello All,

To fix an issue with Joust for the v1.08 ROM revision of the WSF board there's now a new system ROM v1.09.

Full details, commented source and a new ROM revision are here:
http://jrok.com/hardware/wsf/Joust_under_the_hood.html

To update the ROM you'll need to be able to burn a 27C080 ( 1Meg x 8 ) EPROM and just replace the existing ROM.

Just read the write up... that's freaking cool for the original programmer to put that stuff in there.
:)

I'd there a reason you didn't just change the instruction to a NOOP to skip corrupting a byte altogether?

Nice detective work!
Were they trying to defend against the type of 'clones' that were really 'hacked copies'?

Thanx James, can the original EPROM just be reburned??

Not sure, but I think I remember the board originally came with a ROM not an EPROM. And JROK also says replace the ROM with the EPROM.

I hope for future boards you'll stick to EPROMS James so we can upgrade them. Are you offering a replacement in any way ?

All the boards shipped with EPROMs and will continue to do so. You can just pull the EPROM off, erase and re-reprogram.

OK, again my memory being messed up :) Another good reason to (ab)use the programmer at work :p (Which without my use is getting dusty anyway....)

Thanks !

You may be confusing it with Clay's old Multi-Williams kit. I believe the one I have came with an OTP on it, which I've since replaced because I wanted to put the vanity versions on there. Which reminds me, now I have to re-burn that to fix the Joust issue!

JROK,

Is the Joust bug only in the v1.08 ROM? For someone with an earlier version, I assume it does not allow more than five high scores in Joust with the same initials. If so, can they upgrade too to get the high score change?

It's in both the 1.07 and 1.08 versions :(

So I have to do any other mods to the board since I have V1.08?

Great. Now, since I don't have the tools or equipment to do so, what would it cost to have someone burn it and mail it to me? I live in Vancouver, Canada?
Thanks.

Tbullet.

Check out hobbyroms.com

They are located in Canada. Great guy and great service. Highly recommend.
