Hope I'm the first to post it but not too optimistic, because I never have been and I take too long introducing it (like I am now):

You are perfectly, spot on. I was aware of arcade advertising then and long before that era and "bits" never came into it until Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo. Good eye/ear.Pretty well done, but I never heard any bragging about "bits" until 16 bit.
And on this, Disney is working US - you and me - on this movie. It is clearly aimed at us and our kids if we have them. There's no other way to look at it.Has anyone else wondered if Disney came up with this after seeing the arcade interest that popped up after TRON Legacy?

Right, because the entire industry was all 8 bit right up until it was all 16 bit and all the bit posturing amongst the console was silly and often based off sound chips or things other than the main cpu.
8 Bit was never a thing to brag about because 4-bit systems almost never existed in the first place (they really only existed in the early 70s as a budget solution and had already been surpassed in processing power years before they were even introduced).
Actually, the Intellivision was 16-bit, and several 8-bit consoles came out after that..Right, because the entire industry was all 8 bit right up until it was all 16 bit....

But I will agree.
I don't remember anyone saying "Get the Intellivision, it's 16-bit!"
In fact, I didn't even know it was 16-bit until a few years ago.
I agree, the Sega Genesis was the first I remember hearing the phrase 16-bit in ads and such.
