There was a pretty nice display for the movie set up at the Arclight theatre in El Segundo over the weekend. 4 Machines: 2 donkey kong cabinets - one converted DK set up to run wreck it ralph, a DK JR running the original donkey kong, a pacman and a VS mario bros cabinet in a generic dynamo looking thing. There was a little whiteboard in the middle where they kept track of your high score and the best score at the end of the week was supposed to get a $50 gift certificate of some kind.

Comic book guy rant time. The Fix it Felix and DK games were set up with 8 way bat joysticks and the DK was practically unplayable as a result. I think the actuator was set up funky too so jumpman kept running around like his feet were made of butter whenever you moved him - I opted to skip trying to get a good score on this one. The FiF had an actual CRT monitor inside, not sure if Sanyo, and the fuse box and power cord inputs on the bottom had been boarded up and another hole drilled above it for power. Looking in the vent there appeared to be a standard tower PC running the game.

Oh and to add insult to injury, the donkey kong had been given an LCD monitor... I wish i could have been a consultant to some degree :p Overall, an A for effort though, seeing a crowd like this play and enjoy some old games was a nice sight to behold.

You must not have seen the interview with the director I posted a link to. It's probably not a conversion - they built most of the cabinets for Fix it Felix Jr.

Yeah, could have fooled me there. The back part having the on/off switch port and fuse holder boarded up was a nice touch. I guess one of the giveaways would be the lack of numerous bolts on the side of the cabinet for the monitor support beams.

Supposedly Disney made 101 of the Fix it Felix Jr. Arcade games to be distributed across the country as promos. Here in MN I've heard of NONE. So I don't know if it's true or if they mostly ended up in California. Cool to see these photos. Thanks for sharing!

As the manager of in house amusements for Century and Cinemark Theatres I can tell you that we have NONE in any of our buildings. Not sure what Disney's problem is with us...

Oh well.
