Woz. Why???

It has been said that almost 1000 machines have.been sold. Is that refundable deposit machines, or actual paid orders? Just curious.

The theme itself doesn't do it for me, but you can't like every theme. Maybe they will make it cool regardless of my initial reaction.

Theme or not, I like that there is another pin manufacturer. Not that I am likely to purchase nib, but the more options I have to buy today's pins five years from now equals good for me.

Understand what your saying ,but Woz isn't consistant with other acronyms. The one you Quoted proves this point. "TOTAN" is the first letter of each word in the game title.Tales of the Arabian Nights. Therefore Wizard of Oz would be "WOO" People if you are going to act like your better than everbody and use these stupid acronyms for pinball machines at least get them right.

Now now, leave the Pin Snobs to their stupid ass Acronyms, "A" List titles(See; Whatever machine costs the most = BETTER) and actually believing games like MM aren't overpriced...

As I mentioned earlier, abbreviations OR acronyms can be used (for pins or anything else!). They are used for convenience, not because someone thinks they are "better than everybody." There are other common pin abbreviations, like 'creech' for 'Creature from the Black Lagoon.'

Why the hostility? Do you also have a problem with popular abbreviations like 3D? J-Lo? D-Wade? D-Kong? (OK, I made that last one up!)

Whatever.

Latest I heard was about 900 LEs pre-ordered (out of 1000 being made). We'll know after Aug. 1 how many are confirmed orders (when deposits become non-refundable). Plus, Jack said he ALSO had a foreign order for 380 WOZ pins not included in this total.

Alrighty, well...walk around going "Woooo! Wooo!" :) I'm just gonna call it OZ, how about that? :)

I seriously doubt any guys are going to play it without feeling like they are looking gay

Here is the newest update from Jersey Jack!

"We promised that there would be no gay content in the game...however, this created an outcry from the Wizard of Oz fans in the gay community, who do indeed want to look gay while playing! For our gay pre-order customers, we will provide an alternate coin door shaped like the wizard's face. You can play pinball and fuck the wizard in the mouth simultaneously! Another innovative pinball first from Jersey Jack Pinball!"

Jersey Jack is truly looking out for all the pinball players!

;)

yeah...the whole "afraid to look gay while i play this (potentially) awesome pin" is............well................quite gay. :)

Well, this just brings "inserts" to a whole new level.

lol. well played, sir........well played. :)

^this.

i just don't get why folks get worked up over it.

but, i've noticed one very nice thing about the pinside forum is that when an abbreviation is used in a post, if you mouseover it will spell it out for you, and it is actually a link to the page describing the machine that can be clicked on. so, for instance, if you put T2 in a post, the mouseover says "Terminator 2: Judgement Day (Williams, 1991)". it's a nice feature, i think.

i wonder if that would make it easier for folks, and if it's possible to do that with our forum software?

I know, the Addams Family is a 73 year old franchise and look how badly that turned out. ;)

EDIT: Let me clarify:

The Addams Family Pin = 1992
The Addams Family Movie (the license of the pin) = 1991
Age of license when pin came out = 1 year
Age of a currently 40 year old man when the pin came out = 20
Age of a currently 40 year old man when the movie came out = 19

Wizard of Oz Pin = 2012 (likely)
Wizard of Oz Movie (the license of the pin) = 1939
Age of license when pin "comes" out = 73 year
Age of a currently 40 year old man when the pin comes out = 41 (likely)
Age of a currently 40 year old man when the movie came out = -32 years... hell, his momma likely wasn't even born!

Get my point?

Addams Family = Current when it came out.

WOZ = About as stale as RandyToast...

I heard an interview with Jack and he said the first title will be licensed (WOZ)... the 2nd will not... and he plans on releasing the source code for non-licensed machines so people can come up with their own rules, sounds, etc...

At least it had updates throughout the years. When was the last WOZ film? Wait... oh yeah... that is what I was talking about... 72 years ago.... The book is over 110 years old!

The Adams Family Pin came out in 1992 and was based on the 1991 movie... come on... you can do better than that. Sheesh...

Actually, there have been a couple of updates. "Return to Oz" ('85) and more recently (still running) "The Witches of Oz". :)

Granted, they're not retellings or anything, really... so I guess you're point is still valid, but they do still tinker with the Oz stuff here and there.

...and the pin's license is for the 1939 movie...

Should have based it on The Wiz.

'WOO' would be an acronym. 'WOZ' is an abbreviation. There is a difference. Like J-Lo vs. JL. Which is easier to pronounce and sounds catchier? And WOZ is more reminiscent of 'OZ' than WOO is, so why the complaining?

I think JJP is getting a lot of passes from players, as this is their first game.

It's a kiddie theme at its core but they are trying hard to wring as much out of it as they can that will still appeal to adults.

Of course, the theme is what gets people to look at the game but the gameplay is what keeps people happy in the long run. If WOZ turns out to be a great player, people will defend whatever theme they decide to use in future games.
