WOZ Who's getting one?

While I love the idea that another company is making pinball machines, I hate that they've actually topped Monopoly, Shrek and even Shaq Attaq as a bad license idea.

I disagree. It's a great license theme. It may not be as "manly" as something like AC/DC, Tron or Transformers, but Jack knows his market and what people will buy. The Europeans, younger people and women will be much more interested in this game and that might open up the market.

I have to agree that wizard of oz is a poor poor choice for their first pin.
It may have a lot of features and neat colors, but it is tailored to a 10 year old girl.
Just my .02

Disagree. Its a great theme and if I had the cash Id order one, as Jersey Jack is like 20 minutes from me.

If you think WOZ is a bad theme go to any casino in the US and see how packed the WOZ slots are. One of the best grossing video slots in the industry right now.

I'm not on the WOZ list either. The theme is a classic and timeless theme but I think it's just an awful theme for pinball.

And for the JJP cheerleading squad, c'mon you mooks you haven't even played it yet let alone ever owned a JJP. This is NEW so the claims of Jack knows bla blah blah is getting old. Until this game is released and Jesus Christ gives himself gives it the thumbs up please keep your ethusiastic/hopefull attitudes in check.

I am happy for you folks buying Woz, I sincerely hope JJP does well as I am looking forward to his second release.

Too rich for my blood, but in my local area group, there will be 8 WOZ's, so at least I'll get to play!!

^this. though it's not 8, there is at least 1 being ordered by a pinhead in my area that i'll be able to at least play on rare occasion.

I guess, though I don't think success in one market automatically carries over to others. The people coming to a casino are coming to gamble... If the WOZ slots weren't there they would play whatever was.

A pin doesn't have that advantage. What do you think would fair better in a bar, AC/DC or WOZ? I think it's going to appeal to the pin hardcore in the home market, but it's a huge risk for an op. I'm not saying its not going to be a great game either, just that it's going to turn off most of what I'd consider pinballs core audience (men 25-55).

Wizard of Oz is timeless. Everyone watched it as a kid. And whether or not you wanna play the "Im a badass and woz is for f___s" ... it would be a great success if done right.

Every guy has watched Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and Wizard of OZ. Doesnt mean its any less manly then an AC/DC pin. Stern hasnt been doing too great with its "MUSIC THEMED" pins. Although I would love to see a Grateful Dead pin. Nice big Steal Your Face on the front. Just saying.

This applies to anything ever made. I mean a Gameplan pinball would have been good if done right. Rollergames would have been a good game if done right. Ford cars would be good if they were done right. Pepsi would be better than coke if done right.

WOZ is the first and probably the only NIB game I'll ever order. I don't have any kind of reverence for JJP and I'm not a fanboy. In fact I'm pretty outspoken on the issue of whether or not the game will be "all that." I am hoping it will be, but nobody knows. I managed to scrape up the money to get in on the pre-order on the basis of the talent he has on his team and on the idea that I believe he honestly wants to build a world-class game, and not just siphon money off of a bunch of white dudes with way too much disposable income (which IMO is Stern's current business model).

If I had to order now, I couldn't. I just made my final payment a few weeks ago and I couldn't pony up the same money if I had to start over now, so I'm locked in. But I'm not an unconditional fan. I do expect this game to deliver. We shall see.

As far as the theme, I like it. I think it's a "deep" theme and I'm hoping that the ruleset matches. There are some enthusiasts you just can't please and I applaud JJP for not even trying to pander to the more outspoken people in the field who bitch and moan that this-or-that must be made into a theme as if they're representative of the ideal pinball demographic. I think JJP knows more about this than Stern, but we shall see.

I wouldn't worry about the ruleset. When Keefer was announced as part of the JJP team, that's what turned the corner for me and convinced me to send in a deposit. (The rest of the project/people sounded intriguing, but this sold it for me.) The tidbits on the pf and music and video, plus the ridiculous amount of inserts and interesting layout, make me happy I did.

I think the theme is cool--a more universal, timeless theme. Kid- and female-friendly, and getting more kids and women to play pinball is what will save the hobby. The music is shaping up to be amazing too. This is the first game I ever pre-ordered, and only 2nd full-price NIB in my 30 years of pinball ownership. (First was LOTR LE, and it took me almost 5 years of wanting one to pull the trigger.)

I find it amusing the same people who love LOTR, a story about adventurers heading into a strange, far off place to battle the forces of evil on a long arduous journey fraught with many perils, so they can safely return home, thinks WOZ is a horrible theme idea, a story about adventurers heading into a strange, far off place to battle the forces of evil on a long arduous journey fraught with many perils, so they can safely return home.

I look forward to playing it, but can't justify that kind of money on one.

It sounds like a pretty safe theme to me. Appeals to all ages and will still be relevant in 5-10 years as opposed to most of the other licensed pins.

Not really sure what the target demographic for pinball is anymore. I would say it's still the public, but their refusal to adapt to things like credit card and NFC payment methods puzzles me. No one carries change like they used to and NFC payments are convenient and feel less expensive psychologically.

I see one as a kiddie movie (albeit with some dark undertones) and one not. You can call it timeless, but I didn't even like it that much as a kid -seemed like it was made for girls.

If the Hobbits were singing Lollipop Guild on the way to Mount Doom, I'd find LOTR just as lame.

This is not my video but shows two good examples of good music in the WOZ slots.

First part
Second part at 2:12

Hopefully similar in the pin.

Hobbits sing songs, but I guess theirs are manly.

Not sure why there's so much complaining about the theme. A pin maker is taking a risk in hopes of attracting new players to the game, and pinball needs all the help it can get.

No one here has demographics on who plays pins, let alone a WOZ theme. And for all you know there could be more female players out there than men - they just haven't had a game that appeals to them.
