Just noticed this on Costco's website:

http://www.costco.com/.product.633642.html?&cm_mmc=BCEmail_796-_-Focus-_-7-_-MarketingItemName#

<sarcasm>
Everyone needs an ugly and overpriced MAME cab, right? It's only $2,499.99 too! It's got a fantastic 26" LCD in it as well - the ideal monitor for classic games! Heck, at this price, pick up one for a friend too!

"Please note: the coin-door has been permanently deactivated and commercial use is prohibited."

??? Then why install one? So it can be un-permanently activated.

Likely they are being sold with non-commercial licensing from the IP holders of the games and that is why the coin door is disabled.

The pricing really isn't bad. I would never buy one, but as far as retail price home machines go that seems to be a lot of bang for the buck. Certainly a better deal than the $2000+ used classics that most dealers sell.

Owning that machine would make me feel like an old-school operator...

...because the first thing I'd do would be to paint it black.

These things make me laugh with the prices they want. Obviously I would never buy one.

But....it also makes me realize that the fact they did make them and are asking that price is because there are people out there willing to pay for such a thing....which then really makes me think I should be looking into making and selling these myself.

And yes, I know there are a lot of people doing just that. Probably many people here. But there is that notion of "I can do it cheaper and better". :D

all the games are licensed and come on cds (no i dont have 1 but ive looked at a few for repairz).
but they are way overpriced and ugly as shit id rather have a black cab

What I really don't like about that listing is that it's deceptive. They are counting the 29 courses of Golden Tee Fore Complete as 29 separate games.

WTF?!?

Yep, I've wondered that too. I occasionally help others with arcade cab problems, and fix retro consoles and such, but putting together a MAME (or multi-board) cab for someone is a lot of work. The idea of doing it with something like the ArcadeSD board is appealing though (more so than with a run of the mill multi-board, I think) - at least a large chunk of the work and configuration headaches wouldn't be there.

Of course you'd still have to source the cab, controls, monitor, artwork, paint, and put it all together... but if you priced it competitively (certainly far less than this Costco cab), you could still make a nice little profit from it I suppose.

Or just buy it at Costco, mark it up $500, and sell it on ebay like this jackass:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ultimate-Ar...-Full-Size-Arcade-Game-120-Game-/261090384208

I have to watch this auction just to see if some idiot bites...

Maybe I'll ask the seller a question [that will get posted to the page] asking what I get for that extra $500... Oh, I see, free shipping! Yeah!

------------

DONE. My question is below. I'll post his response here - if I even get one from him...

Dear premiumupgrades,

Hi.

What do I get for the $500 more that you are asking over Costco's price of $2,499.99?

Thank you.

Wait a few months after Christmas and people sell them around here for 400 to 500. Had multiple chances to grab one.

What a shocker.. The guy on ebay never got back to me about why I should pay him $500 more than I would pay at Costco for the same [over priced - even at Costco] game.

And just as shocking.. He still has the same 3 for sale that he did when I started this thread.

Maybe there aren't as many uninformed ebayers as I originally suspected..?

I haven't seen one in person but most of those are made so cheaply that they'd probabaly fall apart when you tried to do the first hadoken fireball...

so what is the theory on how to play the spinner games? Tempest with a joystick or trackball sounds pretty weak.
