So I sold two Wico joysticks with Perfect 360s to a member here, and I though I would do something nice for him, so I polished up the sticks. One of the ball-tops had a cigarette burn on the bottom, and they were both faded.

Here is what they looked like before:

Note the melt mark:

So now to how I cleaned them up.

  1. First, I put the sticks in my highspeed drill, then I used a fine grit sandpaper (while the drill is spinning the stick) and sanded out all the little dents and the burn mark.
  2. Second, I used automotive rubbing compound and a wet cloth and polished (still spinning in the drill) out the fine scratches from the sand paper.
  3. Last, I used automotive cleaning wax (using the drill) and gave it a high-gloss shine!

So here are the results, they came out really nice!

The burn mark is completely gone!

No problem man! I appreciate you buying them!

Post a picture of them when you have them installed in your Multi-Williams! :D

I ended up putting 8-way leafs back in the MW. However the 360's found a great home here....

Sorry that I only used one of the blue ball-tops, but Spikes favorite color is red.

Now get some of Armi's lighted buttons:

No problems there! I am just glad you have use of them! I was going to send you some leaf switches when you said that the you didn't score as high with the 360.

I have been watching your DD restore thread, really looks nice! Are you brave enough to try and remove the painted on dust rings?

Also if anyone would like me to clean up their Wico ball top, you can send it to me with return shipping (send just the shaft and ball ;), not the whole joystick unit) and I will do it for free. Just send me a PM.

No worries on the scores, and please stop giving me stuff :) I still like the smooth feeling of the 360's and also the concept behind them. I just am picky about Robotron, and it felt like I just wasn't getting the amount of shots out there that I normally do.

The 360's are tons better than the Happ supers that used to be in the DD machine.

Hmmm, I am still on the fence on the extra lights. If you put them on one cabinet, why not all?

Viewing your pictures has me thinking, if I do just the 1p 2p buttons lit, maybe it will illuminate my custom instructions enough to make people actually read them?!

That's a really super idea Tighe. I think though that, at least it's been my experience that the sticks like in Stargate, or Joust are just faded. And there's very little that can be done about that short of replacement, since you have to replace all the other metal parts of the assembly.

The fading is just on the surface, but if it is really bad you can put some deoxIT on it before you polish them. I do that with DK buttons when I polish them.

You polish DK buttons? Mine's been sitting in the garage for over a year because I can't even get to it to work on it. But I was just going to replace them.
