I was guessing that it would be pretty hefty with gas prices the way they are, but I didn't realize it would be this much! Was looking to get a standard upright cab shipped from lower Maine (Bath, Maine to be exact) to NY and NAVL/STI/Precision (the contact referenced here in multiple posts like this one: http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=172293&highlight=navl+shipping) wanted $406.80! Damn! Am I missing something here? I was under the impression that it would be more in the neighborhood of $300 to $350.

Bath is almost 2 hrs from me. Too bad cause I've got a guy coming from NY to pick up a game and bring it home. I'm fairly sure he would help out for a little cash for the gas.

I had one game shipped from naval in the past few years, but honestly i've learned that with patience every game i've looked for has come up local at some point if you live on craigslist. You can get another classic game with the shipping charge alone.

I will NEVER EVER pay for shipping. I'd rather make the trip myself, and move machines for others to help cover gas costs.

I made a trip 2 months ago to buy a pin 16 hours away(1 way), moving 3 pins out there (halfway) nearly paid for my gas for the entire trip. The buyers of those pins saved a bunch on shipping, and I saved almost all of my gas money.

As previously mentioned, the money paid for shipping could buy me another game.

NAVL has raised their prices to cover gas costs, so I'd check on them before committing to buy a game that you need shipped. I have also found that what used to cost $325-$350 is now $400+. Hard to justify for most games, but if it's a rare grail that I wanted really bad, I'd do it. :)

Nick, wow.

Last two cabs i got in were cockpits from far out and paid 400 or so (good deal imo for a cockpit). This was in the last three months.

For Uprights its been awhile maybe 5 months - east or mid to east coast always cost 350, west to east coast 450.

For now - Did you speak with Judy / Michelle? If so you are talking to the right people.

Than, their rates must of risen. It figures - i mean i cant believe what i am paying at the pump (4.30 is INSANE). I always wondered when they were going to "catch up".

Speculation (off subject here) is that the summer should knock at least 50 cents off the price of gas. Hopefully this is true. I wonder how long it takes them to adjust their policies regarding cost in line with the price of gas.

Yeah gas has dropped by a good 10 cents a litre here in the last week.

I know better though, it's just a ploy to make people think that paying $1.10-$1.20 a litre is somehow "good".

Funny how I still remember it being below $0.40 a litre when I was a kid, and I'm only 29...fucking oil thugs.

My little test

I'd drive 4 hours each way to pick up a game.

If it isn't worth the drive, then I guess I don't want it that bad :)

but yeah, I'll never pay to ship a game.

Yeah, I spoke with Judy. I'd go get it myself, but I just don't have the time to spare; would have to take a day off. Oh well.

Like someone else said, I guess if I wait long enough, it'll show up locally eventually.

Maybe for you people that live in places like NY and California, but around here it very likely will never show up. Sometimes if you have to have something shipping is the only option.

That shipping seems in line with my last quote from them. Getting a 2nd game doesn't add much more to the shipping cost, so maybe you can double up and get a 2nd game shipped out (for you, or someone else), and split the shipping.

I was actually being hopeful when I said that! :) I've had that conversation with a couple of collectors in my area; nothing all that great seems to ever show up. And when it does, it's not showing up for $100 like some of the deals people on here get sometimes. The prices I, and others near me, wind up paying for cabs around here aren't astronomical, but they'd make some fellow KLOV'ers cringe.

It probably was around $350 but then you get the rural charge on top of it because Maine is out of the way. Rural is another $45. I love shipping, the game shows up at my front door and all I have to do is walk outside and wheel it into the game room. Plus going on "The Hunt" gets pretty old after about 2 years...You could wait another 5 before one shows up close enough to pick up. But to echo your original statement yes the rates have gone up :)

Try giving UShip a try, I had a game delivered from Denver Colorado to California for a good deal. What you do is list your game and a discription about it including the size and weight next you get shippers that look at your listing and bid to ship your item I had like 10 different shipping company's bid for my game and they all compete for prices, you just pick what shipper you want. You can check the shippers feedback just like EBay and see if they had really good feedback from other clients. Once your comfortable with the shipper, price, and feedback you place your bid with them you pay the shipper and they will send you a email to let you know when they will deliver your game. I used it once and was happy with it probably use it again in the future.

Be careful with Uship. I used a shipper with decent feedback and experienced heartache.

The best advice I can give is: If you care enough to ship it, don't skimp on your shipper. There are too many things that can go wrong by using cut-rate shippers.

Man that sucks you had to go through all that mess! I guess I got lucky on my deal? I only used them for the first time since I got a crazy quote from the other shipping company plus their shipping truck was too big to fit in my complex to deliver my game.
