WOW! NOS Gorf Cpo?!!

I saw that one...but I'm patiently waiting for your next run of reproduction panels, so I didn't bid on it at all... :)

yep I dont know the seller here and dont take my word for it but it could be legit
the way its wrapped.
my repros didnt have a clear film on them. assuming what we see in the pics comes off

This does not look like one of Rich's reproductions and is a very good match to my original. I would probably believe the NOS comment

Here is a comparison between the TOG repro and an original. You can see that the font is more bolded compared to the original

and the one in the auction:

Personally, I think TOG's reproduction is amazing and would save my money for the next run of panels

The one on eBay is using a different font than your well-worn original. Compare the leg on the capital "R". The one on eBay is using Helvetica (or a very similar font), which has an "R" with a mostly vertical leg that curves out at the bottom. Your original and Rich's reproduction uses an R that has a straight slanted leg (similar to the "R" in Arial, to name a well-known-but-in-no-way-authentic font). The font on your original is probably Bell Gothic, or something similar, while the font on the allegedly NOS eBay CP is almost definitely Helvetica. Do you have a higher resolution picture of your original CP that shows the whole thing and where the text can be seen clearly?

If you look at the red text, and look in relation to the lines above and below them, the letters don't line up the same on the "NOS" one compared to the original one posted.

I remmeber matching this font, I dont recall what it was orginally
but rememebr the letter Q being the most different from the average

To illustrate what I mentioned before:

As I said, the "R" is completely different. The "NOS" CP on eBay is using Helvetica. The original is not.

yeah definatly helvetica or something similar
too hard to tell on the Q on the one on ebay though
Ill have to see if I have something to post as a comparison.

But IIRC Arcade Renovations did repro these before I did
so its very possible its on of thiers seller does indicate buying it in 2004
which would put it around that time frame I think

So the consensus means its NOT NOS? Yes?

Unless there was another version of the original CP that used different font, kerning, etc., then the CP on eBay is not NOS.

I consider it unlikely that a company would go to the trouble of creating new control panel artwork only to make very subtle changes (i.e., similar but different font, and similar but different kerning) that most people wouldn't notice without a side-by-side comparison. Color variations among originals are one thing (due to different printing runs), but they wouldn't normally make new films from new artwork for a new printing run unless they wanted to make significant changes (changing the font from one sans-serif to another similar looking sans-serif isn't really a significant change that would justify the creation of new artwork, films, and screens).

Rich was not the only one that made Gorf reproduction panels.

The "Q" on the eBay CP matches a Helvetica "Q". There are some fonts that are similar to (without being actual clones of) Helvetica in terms of the "R" (such as Folio and Univers) but they have completely different "Q"s. Folio's "Q" is especially distinctive.

Here is a Helvetica "Q" for comparison to the eBay "Q":

It looks like someone just payed $211 for a reproduction Gorf CP.

It's possible it's still NOS, I've seen variations in original art, Galaga is a good example... but unless they built a ton of Gorf's it's unlikely.

According to RotheBlog.com, the Arcade Renovations Gorf reproduction CPs were made in 2002 rather than 2004:
Code:
Arcade Artwork Piece | Year Printed | Qty | Who Printed | Print Technique
—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
Gorf Control Panels | 2002* | 100* | Arcade Renovations | Screen
