Well all that dam snow melted and it has been raining 3 days in a row. Just found 1 inch of water In all my corners. So people check you basement cades if your in pa like me. And thank god I have them all up on 4 inch casters with a in ground sub pump.

yeah hear that.. i have 2 subpumbs though in my basement...nice and dry!!!

It is raining like crazy right now outside NYC (hail actually). We have water in our basement but we ALWAYS get it when it rains. The basement is not finished (and can't be since the ceilings are 6' or less). My house is 100+ years old and the basement is made out of actual rocks so water seeps in all the time. It's just a trickle though and there is a drain in the center of the room but still, it sucks - I need a game room!!!

I have been watching my basement like a mad man. I took a huge chance by putting all of my games in the basement without testing it after we had the drains and sump installed. I normally get a few inches of water every spring. So far so good (knocks on wood).

i hear ya, this sucks :( its raining like a bastard here and no signs of stopping soon. i really dont need this right now...sadly i wish it was snowing

Water actually came out from under the house into the garage First time I have seen it do this in my house. It got my carpet in the Garage soaked some in the one corner other than that not to bad.

knock on wood I have been bone dry in my basement. I have a 1919 Bungalow but it was waterproofed (french drain and sump pump) in 1995 (I bought it in 2008). I put a couple coats of drylock on the walls just to play it safe and I had to redo a bit of concrete work around the basement door. I still come down a couple times in the middle of the night during a heavy storm just to be safe though. I always have my wet/dry vac handy and I have a generator for the sump pump.

My sister in laws basement got soaked, she just came over and grabbed my shop vac. They also tried to buy/rent one of those blower fans at Home Depot and they're all gone.
Between the snow and crazy amount of rain, I think the water is the worst its been in years. She's been in that house about 5 years and never had a drop get in before today.

No wet basement for me, unfortunately because I don't have one!

Just finished the french drains this winter, so far everything is dry as can be!!
But the two sump pumps are running every few minutes and it sounds like a constant waterfall as they keep filling up.
Still haven't sealed the walls, going to put an inch or two of spray foam on them to insulate and create a vapor barrier, before framing. Did it in my last house and it made a BIG difference in humidity. Going to try doing myself this time (http://www.fomofoam.com) even though it costs the same as having it done. I have a few other places I want done which would be hard/expensive to include (a crawl space, in some eves, etc.)

My parents have been without power the last two days (whole neighborhood) luckily they are at the top of a hill and dont get much water. I'd be screwed if I lost power, doubt I could keep up bailing out the sump pumps by hand.

I'm thinking about installing a water powered sump pump as a backup for my main pump. Even if the power is cut off, the backup should kick in as it's powered by water flow and can pump more gallons per hour than most battery back up pumps.

Anyone here have one installed or are familiar with them?

yeah i have a basementcade and i need to do something.. have not has any water issues at least yet but my luck with water is not good heh...

my house does not even have a sump pump.. ive been seriously thinking about adding one.

Not familiar with them, might have to look into it, but depends on how much water they would use.
The basement is not finished yet so I have a little time. Was planning on putting in one battery backup pump for short outages and buying a small generator for when a longer outage happens.

Putting in a sump pump cant hurt, but if you don't get water.... Will it help?
Also unless there is good drainage under the slab/floor any water is not going to magically come to you sump pump first.
My last two houses both had sump pumps but that didn't stop the water problems. Water would come in at random places and then have rivers run across the floor. Luckily my one house had the sump pump at the lowest place.
Both houses only had water come in around the exterior walls so I put in french drains with drain pipe running to a pit or two with pumps. Both are now dry.
But thats not always the way. My one brothers house has two sump pumps (no french drains) and when it really rains he has water come up from every crack in the floor (even the middle of the house)
So unless you know how your house gets water(if it ever does) It might be better to just have a big wet/dry vac around, and keep an eye out when it rains hard and long.

I'm going to pick up the cheaper one. it works well?

The ones I have are sensitive. They basically go off as soon as they get wet. They don't have to be completely submerged to detect the water.

I haven't had water try to come in since I got these but I manually tested them and they are loud and seem like they would detect any moisture that reaches the sensor.

I put one a few inches about where my normal water level in the sump pit just for an early warning before it even gets to the floor level.

Yeah...the winter thaw..and then rainy season which seems to extend to 11 or 12 months a year around here..:D

I have french drains and pump too..also installed an awning over the water trap exterior basement door...and no water issues for several years because of it...
