I did a Bob Roberts order last night and was expecting to order a few spare Atari Star Wars 5k pots to have around for when I need them. I figured that it wouldn't hurt to have a half dozen here. I didn't see them on his site and asked. He replied that he doesn't stock them and the the only one that he knows who does is Happ. I found them on Happ's site. After their handling charge and shipping........ get this....... ABOUT $25 each! Is this really the going rate for a 5k pot? That's crazy! Is there any place cheaper?

Do you have the complete specs? It might be worthwhile to check out Jameco or Mouser.

I have used 5k ohm pots from jameco/crap shack on different games like Hard driving and Super Hang on T2 ect. I have not had a problem to speak of really. The only problem you might run into is the size of the shaft. I usally make them work one way or another. I think the ones I got were 2 watt but I figure the 1/2 or 1 watt ones would work too. I have probably used them too but the last ones I remember were 2 watt for some reason. The cheaper ones like these do not last as long though because well basicly you get what you pay for cheap pot. I have had some break as soon as a year on location. Long enough to make it worth while I think to buy the cheaper ones. Sorry to ramble on.

I got some pretty nice ones recently from mouser for around $8 each. I agree with Warlord, the biggest deal is the diameter and length of the shaft.

I ordered a bunch from Mouser or MCM a while ago... never had any problems with them, but mostly used them for low use things like volume controls on games... I think they were about 50 cents each though, so if they go bad, I won't be complaining much

Actually on this pot the price may be out of their control. The original pot used in the amusement game industry on foot pedals is made by Allen-Bradley. It's good quailty stuff and really takes the abuse that these games get, but boy I wish Allen-Bradley would be more reasonably priced.

Mouser has some 2 watt rated units made by Clarostat that may be pretty close substitutes.

Ken, do you happen to know the part number of the pot you're referring to? I couldn't seem to find it on Mouser's website. Thanks.

The Allen-Bradley pots are on my ESB, RB, and FF and are very high quality and extremely durable like Ken said.

Hey Brian: I got a few of these from Stephen Beall awhile back. I forget how much they were, but I think he still has some left. They are made by Clarostat and are 5K Ohm. Sorry for the crappy picture.

I'm going thru the same thing, need the same pots for my cybersleds. Those originals are mil spec pots that's why they are so much. I found them the cheapest (exact same pot as happs) for 16.39ea. from www.cwass.com

Here is one. Still 16 bucks but no minimum for web orders as I understand:

14 and some change. No pic and high watt so its may be physically to large.

Here is a link into the potentiometer section:

There are several in the correct range but without pics to give you and idea of size. Many have a spec sheet in pdf form that may give exact measurements.

I haven not ordered form them yet, a friend recommended them to me. Order a catalog from them (link from home page). It's free, shipped free. The thing is literally like a phone book. Most all components have pics and dimensions.

Trust me I spent all day a couple days ago trying to find it cheaper. I went to several electronics shops and I called/emailed several places online and in town. I even got a quote to have 1800pot to build me the same pots if I ordered a large amount and still they were expensive. That cwass.com placed has exact same pots for that price not maybe. I found several pots at my electronics shop in town that were 5k and the shaft size was never correct. They were all 2-8 dollars. They had probably like 50 different sizes and didn't have it. Another thing you have to consider when you look for a replacement is is the pot linear or rotary? If you don't know what it is you may be disappointed when it doesn't work.
