WOW $965 for a TEMPEST?!

Ok, place your self in his shoes.. Now wouldn't you just want to get the darn $965 + shipping. :)

What I think is funny (per ebay ad):
" He re-built the Wells Garner monitor to never to burn out, and had loads of documents and original Atari schematics that was for repair people."

and then later:
"The operation of the machine is near perfect. The sound is perfect and the monitor is bright and crisp. The only problem is once in a great while, only half of the screen will be displayed and then if I touch gently on the wires it goes back to normal."

So....
for a near perfect machine that has some magical "never burn out" kit in it - seems like its loosing some deflection - no??
Go I love ignorant people on ebay!! LOL!

Didn't look at the pics, but I bet I could sell one of my Tempest's for a similar price. In fact, I had a guy call me yesterday asking if I would sell one of them - and I don't even have them listed.

Don't be surprised if nice examples of this game start bringing in the big bucks as the years go by...

$965 is not out of line - on the high side - but not out of line by any means.

Now, in the context of 95% of the cheap mofos/flippers on KLOV that buy every POS cabinet/grail on CL - sure - $965 is out of this world.

Anything over $250 is too much for KLOV.

A decade ago nobody would've even blinked at that price. But yeah, now some of the games are surprisingly bringing in a lot more money. Like Tron....

well we dont all live in california lol..

around here, a nice one would go from a grand if it was nice condition or restored ( to the right person)

a bit steep yeah... horrible price not around here man

You cali guys have it great and you dont even know it man

plus your cars bnever rust out. Around here, if we get 8 years rust freem its a fruckin miracle

No problem, give me a list of suckers willing to buy them For $1k and I will. Don't be a punk, I'm stating facts. I literally have turned down two in the last month at the $400 price tag in great condition because I don't think it's worth more than $300. That of course is my opinion but the fact that they are readily going for $400-$500 is fact here.

I wouldn't sell mine for $500 and I'm in AL. I just think the price police posts, while sometimes entertaining, are silly. It's always - X is too high, I wouldn't pay more than Y.. My personal opinion, but a Tempest is worth much more than $300, given that you can get that much or more for a nice, working WG6100, rebuilt, with upgrades.

I have three separate people here who bug the hell out of me all the time because I once mentioned I MIGHT sell my extra one for $600 - and only if I don't redo the artwork....

yeah it's totally subjective. I don't like the game so I wouldn't pay $400.

But the monitor is worth $300 (roughly) board worth $100 ( at least)

I can see a guy paying $400-$500 and feeling good about it. I sold mine 6-8 months ago for $575 I think.

almost a grand means a guy really wants it, lol.

funny thing is.....craigslist has had plenty of them for sale around $600 +

The guy could have got one cheaper if he wanted to.

I sold one earlier this year for $450.

Brian is right. $400 to $500 is the price around here.

guys. you have to put the purchase in context. someone who doesn't collect and have 100 games and just wants a piece of their youth in their gameroom is (on average) going to spend more money. I maintain, for that type of purchase - $965 is not out of line.

I agree. Also, let's say there's a project you're willing to spend $300 on, and you're looking out for years, and it seems like the only way you'd get one is to have it shipped. If the game pops up within 15 minutes of you, for $500, then it's a decent price, since it would cost that to have one shipped. Not every purchase is gonna be a bargain. Some of my purchases have been deals, most have been fair, and I paid $400 for my Toobin because it was an hour away and near mint condition. I considered that a great deal, as it was one of my grails. I bet some of you wouldn't pay $200 for Toobin, but you're missing out..
