Would you spend $200 on this...

How were they packaged? I've gotten a couple where the seller just wrapped them real good in bubble wrap & cardboard. But I'm getting opinions that crating them is the only way to go.

Do a little googling and you will find some advice on how to ship backglasses. One route may be to buy a BG container from pinball resource - the same one that they use to ship their backglasses and have it shipped to the seller to use to ship yours. It may seem a little pricey way to go but the only way to guarantee success. Do not skimp on this. The $150 glass is nice with no tape on it and you know that these are far and few in between. I'd be contacting PBR right now for one of their shipping containers - I'm sure if you explain why you need one they will help you out. If not, try Mayfair as they sell BG's and ship them.

All mine where shipped in layered cardboard. Item was tightly packed so it could not move.

I suppose a crate would be ideal, but the glass must still be tightly packed in cardboard so it won't move around, sides of the glass not too close to the cardboard edges too.

Like mrbill08 states, you only have one chance at this and I would pay extra so it arrives safely. When I ship circuit boards, they get shipped in a hard plastic hinged case. I want my board back in one piece, thus I ship them like this.

Arghh!!! Why do people use tape?
Go get Krylon triple thick glaze at Walmart to repair them!!
Once you screw up with tape, your done. Heck, at least with the glaze you can even safely color touch up over top of it.

I might have one somewhere 80's. If I can find it you can have it for a case of beer and a bottle of vodka.

If you can let me know soon, Ill take you up on this. Already have this guy going to UPS after the weekend for a packing & shipping quote.

ups does packing. That would be the way to go. Then if it gets damaged, its on them.

How I would ship it, wrap it in something soft(the stuff they use on new electronics). then a tight layer of cardboard. Then bubble wrap. then in a larger box the whole with foam or peanuts.

Well I have bad news, I found it..............................in pieces along with 2 others and 2 playfield glasses. Now I have to watch security footage to see which asshole broke everything and didnt tell anyone. We dont care if a mistake was made but if you break something around here and dont tell anyone then your ass is gone.

Sorry I couldnt help you.

You might want to post on the local CL real quick as well. I think I remember a while back <3 months ago> someone parting a Xenon out. You never know.

FWIW, I just had a BG shipped to me in Baltimore, MD from Orlando, FL. I went with UPS and they did the packing (I actually called a couple of stores local to the BG seller to get a sense of how "competent" I felt the people to be).

They wrapped it in a lot of bubble wrap, put it in a box that had several inches of clearance in all directions and filled it with packing peanuts/popcorn. It was insured with a declared value of $200.

It arrived in perfect condition.

The cost was somewhat high, and I discovered that a quote from one store does NOT translate to another store. Materials and packing were about $35 and shipping was about another $50. At that size package, the shipping rate is based on dimensions, so that's why it got so pricy.

The BG I was getting was priced very reasonably, so the fact that the overall cost nearly doubled with shipping was acceptable. Not so sure if the same could be said for a glass that's $200.

Good luck with whatever you opt for.

That sucks, hope you find the perp. Gotta ask though, got a good playfield? Mines a little rough.

this is the WORST idea i have read on here to ship a backglass too much wasted time....call and wait and pay for a box from PBR, then pay and wait and ship to the seller, then pay and wait again for it to get to you....

geeeez.......

just wrap a layer or thick paper around the glass (no tape touches the glass), then fold a layer of cardboard OVER the glass and paper itself and make it tight....then put it in a low box with packing peanuts or bubble wrap, then inside 1 more box with bubble wrap or peanuts.....YOUR LARGEEST PROBLEM WILL ONLY be finding the right size boxes!!!!
this is how i have always recieved backglass (except 1 or 2 in a crate) and how i always send them....NEVER a problem not 1 time in 10 years!!!!

It's here... heres what $103 in packaging and shipping looks like, apparently. This box weighed in at a mere 10 lbs. and the length was 30". Oh well, at least it made it in one piece. More photos coming up along with comments and another question...

So as you can tell in the second photo, there is not one but FOUR pieces of tape on this glass, nice of the seller to mention this. He gave this glass a 9/10 rating, what do you think? Should I make a stink? Either way, it'll do, definitely an improvement as you can see.

Now the question, obviously I want to triple thick this thing, but didn't realize all the tape I'd be contending with. At least it looks like a decent tape job, no bubbles or creases, and the only part that shows where it counts is a slight discolorization on Xenon's forehead. Anyway, with all that said, what's the best approach with this? Also keep in mind I have ruined a backglass once with too much triple thick.

Really? $103 just in shipping? It's not exactly a professional shipping job, and it's not a real large box, in size or weight. I would never have paid that much.

I did have a FedEx Authorized ShipCenter charge me $58 to box and wrap a backglass on top of the shipping charges one time.
