Putting this Radar Scope back together...Would you completely strip and restore this cabinet, or just slap some t-molding on it, repaint the black parts, and call it a day? But I'm just wondering if it even needs it.

Yes, there's a little damage on the right side, but the left side is ok. The coin door and brackets could use a fresh coat of paint. Can you buff out the formica?

Before you answer, make sure to take notice of the serial number.

From what I understand from CamaroMurph, they started at number A01000.

I've watched too many episodes of antiques roadshows..."well, if you woulda just left paint it...."..etc, etc...

Advice from the old pros please?

Depends on how much you spent on it. Im guessing it was dirt cheap. If you want to try making a minty Ninty, bust out the paint guns. If you want to keep it original, it is a great specimen. It can go either way.

I wouldn't put an ounce of paint on the red. Touch up the black, but don't touch that red. Looks like a decent cab. You are lucky to have it! That's a real RADAR SCOPE with that single slot coin door. NICE.

sun of a bitch I should have paid more attention to the serial #.. Well at least it went a good person who built the new foundation for my website.. :)
soooooo cooool doh!

keep everything original as possible.. try not to get repro this or repro that.

Restore. These games are never going to be like those antiques on roadshow. Not in our lifetime anyway.

I'd have to agree with Wade. The serial number won't add any value to the cab. (at least it would be very difficult to find someone that would pay a premium for it).

It really just comes down to what you want in your house. An original cab in decent shape, or a mint restored cab?

I'd leave it how it is . That cab looks nice !! I'd make it a DK though ,

No, I would not restore it in any way. I would not repaint the black parts or anything else. I would simply reassemble it, get it working and call it "done." Unless someone comes up with Radar Scope A100018 or lower, you will have the oldest Radar Scope in the world and it will be in excellent unrestored condition. :)

thank you, I appreciate all the advice. And I yes, I do realize how lucky I am. I'm also glad Chad's not gonna kill me!

I was thinking about doing a DK or even a multi nintendo..but I think this one needs to be a Radar Scope again, eventually.

Simple green sounds good, but I'm worried about using a magic eraser on it tho..won't that take the formica off? Can you buff out or wax formica?

That's a nice cab. Like others have said. Clean it up good, touch up the black, Maybe repaint the coin door and base, new t-molding and roll it. I got a red DK a while back and my first thought was to make it mint with new paint etc. A few people told me don't and the more I looked at it and thought it over it already looked damn good. So I gutted it for some cleaning and repainting the inner sides black and soon I'll throw it back together. Very nice cab and may a radarscope live on. - Barry
