Would you replace this Sanyo EZ flyback?

Looks like it's already been siliconed to me. The monitor has some issues that may (or may not) be flyback related, but I'm wondering whether it might be worth it for preventative maintenance.

if it is questionable I would, if it goes it would take out other stuff too so it might be worth it. Bob has them now for 25 bucks.

you should soooo know this brother ;)

That is not silicon, and it is getting ready to fail. Replace it.

Whoa there Dok, I have to respectfully disagree with you there. Normally, something looking like that is cause for alarm. But not on a Sanyo. All EZ flybacks have that brown or red, dried glue looking crap there - perfectly normal. I have 5 perfect working ones right here just like it.

It's not leakage, it's some factory sealant. And it doesn't matter if it's cracked and broken up, sparks aren't gonna fly out of it. Probably wasn't "needed" in the first place, just helps keep out moisture and dust.

The majority of Sanyos have that crap coming out of the top of them, but it appears to be fresh from that pic. It is the epoxy or resin that the fly is filled with to encapsulate the windings. If it is all hard, it is old and nothing to worry about. If it is pliable, it is leaking out just like a GO7 will do right before it fails.

Be careful there Brother, the fly will arc from that spot to the chassis frame. I have personally seen it more than once.

I would think after 30~/+ years of use, it's probably time anyway, right?

not necessarily the kind of bill I would want to foot right now considering I have 5 of those monitors.. but if it's just one I'd do it immediately :)

Yep, I'm going with this. I've never seen a factory Sanyo EZ that didn't look like that. I wouldn't worry about it.
