Would you part a working game?

But you thought you could part the thing and get $700 or $800 for it. Would you do it?

Be honest.

john, don't do it! have yr. wife sell an egg. here in denver, at the going rate, that would give you 5000 reasons to not part out a damn game.

Well, I've yet to run into a game thats worth more in parts than it is whole. It also takes alot less effort to sell the game whole and local than it does to part it out, list parts, package and ship parts.

On the other hand, if you need a quick buck and can make more on a part-out (and sometimes youll get more interest that way), do what you gotta do.

Popeye. I couldn't get $200 for a complete dedicated Popeye. Monitor needed a new flyback, but other than that, she worked. I parted it out and got over $500 for everything. Sad thing is, I have another dedicated Popeye too that is even in better shape than the first one.

Part it? Sure. The only sin I see for collectors is destroying or throwing away things that work/can be repaired but can't be replaced, like vector monitor yokes.

If all the parts of that Star Wars still exist, then no real harm has been done. Just a reshuffle of the deck. Hopefully you can give the incomplete cab away.

Well, since I have seen it I can give my honest opinion on it. The cabinet is pretty rough, it would need some work and art. That being said I don't think it would be a major crime parting it out and you will get back at least $600 on it I expect.

So if you were having a hard time pulling together enough money to pay your property tax or whatever and you had a medium to crummy condition working classic game that you could sell for, say $400. But you thought you could part the thing and get $700 or $800 for it. Would you do it?

Are you going to make the leftover cab into a lounge chair? Enquiring minds want to know! :)

I parted one because noone wanted it locally and there was a demand for the parts. I wasn't happy with doing it but I was happy when all was done with.

Yup. definitely would. Although in my experience its only the not so nice games that need to be parted. Nice games sell themselves.

Do i need to answer this question?

LOL

Chris25810 is the opposite of the people who get mad when somebody parts something. Chris gets HAPPY when he parts something, he even takes videos of some of it rubbing it in.

LOL I'm with you man, I understand. Its your games, part away if you must!

You know what's worse than parting out a game? Some guy stuck in the middle of Kansas with a oh... Wizard of Wor missing a control panel. Chris parts one out, now the guys game can be played. Then another guy in Missouri or whatever needs a ram board, another guy in New York needs the rom board for his, a guy in Florida can't play his because the speech board doesn't work, guy in Texas needs the coin door, etc. before long 5 or more games are working because somebody parted one. I have no issues with it.

All I'm thinking is, if someone is so broke that you can't pay basic bills, then why the fuck are they spending all their money on this expenisve ass hobby?

Did you miss the part where I'm only $50 down and after I sell the SW I'll be ahead of the game? There's not a game in my stable that hasn't been more than paid for by other games that I've bought and sold.

Things happen, it's not like your sole intentions are to part them when you aquire them, If I have to keep the roof over my head and food in the belly then I'd part it.

If I had the time and money I'd be driving up to get it.

I wasn't neccessarily talking about you specifically. You know, to determine profitability I'd have to see a spreadsheet, invoices and some tax returns for everything. Then I'd need to see some cost benefit analysis, comparitive charts for regular hourly wage to compute money lost due to time spent on hobby activites, 3-D models of all games involved, notorized affidavits, etc. Personally, I'm still having a hard time figuring out whether this is real or some sort of hypothetical scenario. Like, what if your kid had been kidnapped by terrorists and the terrorists hated Major Havok and they were going to kill your first born child if you didn't part that bitch out (the game not the kid). Personally, I would let them kill the kid. Kids are easy to come by these days and I've never seen a dedicated Major Havok.

I'll get that stuff right over to you. And yeah, it was hypothetically real. :)

If I were to sell a game and it sat for months and months and I wanted the money for it, unless it was ultra rare, desirable, I'd part it. Chances are it would have sold if it were either above.

People that go buy cabs, part them, and dump them are jokers. I'll give you that. Still, the parts are going to complete cabs most of the time so who cares.

Ultimately, It's my shit. I paid for it, I don't owe anything to anybody to keep it in one piece. Like I'm supposed to sit on a shitty game because some nerd in RI has been looking for the game for 6 months, but can't drive or ship it. Too bad.

That being said, I've never parted anything but a couple shitty jamma conversion cabs.

I would only part out a working game if the cabinet was in no way salvageable. Then I would find a new cab to transfer the parts to.
