i got lucky w my first game, asteroids, as a neighbor sold it to me. But with the exception of 1 other game i have had in my lineup over the years, none of those i've owned would not have been found without the interwebs. How about all of you?

hard to say. I got some games prior to the web and made some good connections. I probably would not have as many games without the internet.

Probably not.

I've bought games from ebay, craigslist, and auctions I wouldn't have found out about without the internet.

Only one I got without the aid of the Internet was the working ASSAULT at the beginning of 2009. My neighbor's nephew was throwing it out so he went and got it for me... of course, the only reason he knew I was into arcade games was because he's seen me working on my machines in my driveway... all of which I got using the Internet anyway...

i got 3 games before i started using the internet to really connect with sellers... one from an operator, one from a thrift store, and one was a freebie from friends who knew i was into arcade games.

i have since purchased one game that wasn't in some way assisted by the internet (from an arcade,) but it was a game with problems that i would have not had the resources to repair if it wasn't for the web. oh, and i was just given another non-working cab by friends who i know IRL... considering the impact of the internet on my life it's always possible i might not even have known them if it wasn't for it's influence though.

The web is the only reason arcade games have much of any value anymore. If it wasn't for that I know I wouldn't have found this love.

I got my first two games, Asteroids and Donkey Kong Jr, a week apart because they were 'broken' and a neighbor was putting them out on bulk garbage day.
The Asteroids now works and DK will live soon, but only thanks to the KLOV family.
My next three games were internet/craigslist buys.
So my answer...no and yes!

Some yes, some no...

The breakdown is:

Local Auction - 6
eBay - 3
RGVAC - 2
BYOAC - 1
Craigslist - 1

The big part the internet plays is the availability and finding of parts and reproduction pieces.

I would say that most of us wouldn't. My first game was from a local op, and I knew a local collector so I probably would have had 3 or 4. But the moment they broke they probably would have been on the curb without the net as a repair resource.

Yes of course, but things might be a little different for me. My father in law got me in the hobby and i had about 7-10 games before i even looked on the web for anything..however i feel with out the web my collecting could have gone in a different direction. id probably have all em games:) not that thats a bad thing...

oh yea and my videos would be only half working.

I would say I've owned at least 60-75 games over the years (currently have about 30). Of those, about 15-20 are a direct result of contact over the internet (either CL or from meeting someone here).

I've gotten a lot thru my job...

Almost certainly not. MAME is what got me into the hobby in the first place (12 years ago), and of course with no internet there would be no MAME.

nope, first four came from Ebay. The rest is all from auctions after I found KLOV. Now there's no more auctions. It's been a bad drought.

Intertubes FTW! In some way, shape, or form, Al Gore's incredible invention has helped me hoard the games I have.

I've never seen a game in a thrift store, hoping I do someday... I guess I need to start going to thrift stores, huh? :D

Wait.

No, I'm pretty much broke and out of room. I guess this is a good thing.
