I'm trying to weigh my options on what to do. I got a BSD pin lined up I could by for $1350. In great shape, has had mods done as well. The only thing is if I buy it, I wont have enough to make going to the auction in february worth it. Not sure what to do. If I buy the pin, I have 3 pins I like in good shape. But if I go to the auction, could get a game I have been wanting, or possibly a couple depending on pricing. But most games that go for "ok" prices at auctions seem to usually need some work done. I would really like to try and get a T2 pin or possibly a ST:TNG pin. Wouldnt also mind 2 sitdown racing games. What sucks though is the auction is 4 hours away, while the pin is about 1 1/2 hours away.

Unless you really know how to work on pins I wouldn't chance buying a STTNG from an auction. It sounds to me that you really just want another game and are going to settle for the BSD.

My opinion is that you should be patient and find the STTNG and pass on the BSD. It sucks to sit on money when a game appears but you will get stuck in a vicious cycle of buying and selling if you don't wait and be patient and find the game you REALLY want.

Nothing against BSD it is an excellent game but I'm betting you won't keep it for long if you did get it :)

I would pass on the Big Sweaty Dudes pinball, unless you truly swing both ways. Wait for the Star Trek pin.

(That is what BSD stands for, right?)

I played BSD. Seemed like a fun game. Not sure if I have the funds to get a STTNG now. The BSD is about the max I can spend, and after that, cash will be a little tighter for a while. I think I would keep it for a while.

But your right, I cant promise I would keep it. I think I would. The only reason I sold my BoP was it wasnt in as good of shape as I thought when I started really looking at it. The TZ and ST I have are in great shape so I want one more pin in good shape. I figure 3 pins is a good mix in with my games. Of course the only thing I have been playing out of everything has been my TZ.

I just wish the auction wasnt so far away. 4 hours each way is alot of driving in a day. If it was only like 2 hours, I would just put off the BSD till after the auction. The guy doesnt have it listed anywhere and hes not in a hurry to sell it at all.

I drove 5 hours one way to pickup my Earthshaker :) I bet it wouldn't be as bad if it was a STTNG you were picking up. You can't go wrong with BSD and you can always sell it. Heck I might even be interested down the road...

I never knew they made a BSD pinball machine. I wonder if they made a Linux pinball machine... Tux is way cuter than that BSD Daemon.

Seriously, I have no idea why pinball guys insist on abbreviating the titles of games. I mean, is it really that hard to type "Twilight Zone", you have to abbreviate it to "TZ"?

I mean, we never would refer to a game as "MPM" when we mean "Ms. Pac-Man", or "A" when talking about Asteroids....

In any event, I have no idea what game "BSD" is as a pinball machine... But an actual BSD themed pinball would be quite cool - what, you'd have to knock down all the drop targets along one row to mount all the filesystems, and by lighting up all the fork() lights you could enter multiball...

:D

Multi ball recompiles the kernel!

:)

(FYI - I think they mean Bram Stroker's Dracula)

Yep, thats it. I didnt start using initials on them till recently. I use to wonder what they all were talking about. Now I know a couple of them.

A lot of hobbiests use slang or abbreviations for things, pinball is very heavy with them.

If you are not sure of what one stands for search this:

Type in BSD and you will find the answer :)

Not to mention, there were so many fewer pinball machines made in the last 30 years that it's pretty damned easy to remember all the abbreviations. Couldn't possibly do it with videos since there have been so many more models.
