I have been given the oppertunity to op my mostly restored tron, at 100% profit to me. THe theater wants the game for a few months of course due to the whole tron movie coming out.

Im seriously considering it. You thoughts? THis will be in a chicago-burb movie theater, not a ghetto one by any means.

My tron is not museum quality and if it gets some scratches but makes me a grand, hey what the hell you know?

What do ya think?

They're not making any new ones... think of it as loaning out your classic '57 Chevy as a rental car available to anyone to drive.

Does that make you uncomfortable? If so, you may have a problem with it...

I'll be doing the same thing if this opportunity goes through. Nothing to lose really. I can use the extra coinage to buy repro parts (if it earns enough). Mine needs new side art and plastics anyway.

Hey, should we set the dips for 50 cents per credit? j/k

the answer is YES.
I have entertained the thought of putting mine at .50cents a game.

A tron at a public movie theatre? All I can say is get ready for Coca Cola spills, buttery popcorn fingerprints on your game art, and perhaps a wiener minus the bun in your coin slot.

Phet would love that

yeah, that's why i wouldn't. when i got my tron it took me a couple hours to get all the dried/sticky soda off it, and i'd hate to do that again.

edit - to add, if i did, i'd probably run my tron for a straight day to test for any potential issues, and just make sure everything was bulletproof cause any game in a movie theater is probably gonna be running for 14-16 hours a day.

I'll vote under the if it's restored, no, I wouldn't.

but, you say yours isn't museum quality, so a few nicks and such shouldn't be too harmful if it's making you money, right?

Check to see if they are going to be putting it somewhere where it will be easily visible to employees at the least

I'm considering approaching my small town theatre about this idea. Pretty much the same mindset as you. I have one that works, but not "pretty", and thinking it could possibly earn enough profit to make it "pretty" afterwards. I just havent figured out the best approach to present the idea (hint hint, I would love to hear some input/advice).

Wife is worried that some unsupervised kid is going to swing from the joystick and break it, or even worse... I keep telling her I would only consider doing this here in my hometown where I can keep an eye on things a little better.

I would do 0.50 per game or maybe even higher.

well, if it's not part of this 100% profit campaign, i'd say approach them and explain the game, and that with the movie coming out, it'd see a lot of play, and offer to give them a piece of the earnings, and see where it goes. but definitely price it at .50 cents. most games at movie theaters are priced from .50-1.00 so you can maximize profit and not worry about people bitching about the price.

yeah thats what im thinking too.. 50 per game..

100% to me, although i will be sharing with the guy who would be getting my game in the door and looking after it..

My tron already has scuffs, paint was never 100% flawless. I never set the inner art properly, and the side art is b grade.

If theyll let me tape a biz card under the bezel or something i think im going to go for it.

I will probhably add a temporary fan or two in there as well as i know this thing would be runniing 16-24 hours a day...

I have a friend who owns a theater and he was wanting to split the profits on one. I would probably only consider it if I did get all the profit. Personally, I considered trying to get one of Dptwiz repro plywood cabs and getting it completely restored with the phoenix art, and new Rikitiki marquee that I just bought. It would probably involve putting another grand into my game by December and I just don't know if I have it in me....or my bank account. If I did, it would be really hard to put it on location. But on the other hand, I can't think of anything cooler than having a minty brand new Encom Tron at the movie premiere of a movie we've waited 15 years to get a sequel. Pretty epic. So I'm still on the fence. Hopefully, no retard would be carving his name into a brand spanking new game. And since it wouldn't be on location for much more than a month, I doubt it would get vandalized. And since my old cab is in rough shape, if I didn't restore it before hand, the profits could go to the new cab/parts. So it would probably be worth it.

I'm really curious what kind of take these things will get. It doesn't seem to me like it would attract very many of the younger generation. While the cabinet is pretty cool with the black-light effect, the game play is a little...er....dated. To put it kindly.

But us old dudes will probably be all over it for a game or two. Although we will be grumbling the entire time about it costing 50 cents....

NO WAY in hell.
Would you loan your wife or kids to the public. For a mire quarter or two the novice gamer that plays your rebuilt, restored baby will probably treat it like shit. I have never been to an arcade or 7-11 or anywhere that has or had games and didn't witness some jackass hitting, kicking, slamming, shoving or in some way mistreating a game in someway.

JUST MY .02 WORTH

DO IT C-MAN!! When it is all is said and done, take the $$$ it earns, + sell yours, and get that museum piece you want! Let face it, soda and popcorn butter wipe off!!!

I was thinking of this myself. There is a local independent movie theater that I would love to pitch the idea to of a "Flynn's Arcade" and loan my 8 classics to it. If I ever get my (already paid for) recognizer neon sign that would be a nice touch. If I made no money it would still be cool to be a part of it. But I do worry about the azzhats f'ing up my babies.

yeah, my Tron stays where it is. In my arcade.

I didn't hunt down a already hard to get game, just to have in man handled MORE by the uncaring public.

If I did let it out, you can bet I'd be sitting with it on a folding chair armed with a taser.
