I was thinking about painting this cabinet Nintendo blue and turning it into a 60 in 1. It used to be a Devastators, then converted to a Top Gunner. It also has 6 carriage bolts sticking out of both sides (12 in total). I know it's not a Nintendo cabinet, but is this cabinet rare enough that it would be a horrible thing to do to it? This is the cabinet:

Can you even get a vertical monitor into a Joust cabinet? Might have been a Sinistar instead. The provenance seems weird too, Devastators came out years after Top Gunner and it would be really unlikely one would get converted to an older title.

I personally think conversion games should be preserved, but most people disagree with me.

The color you paint it won't matter. Go down to the store and get a $5 mistint gallon. Get a real true 4-way joystick and turn off the 8-way titles (which also turns off all the buggy titles as a side effect) and enjoy your machine.

Thanks! Sorry, I actually think it is a Joust 2 cabinet, it has a 19" vertical in it. I was also wrong, there are only 4 carriage bolts on each side. I am not sure the about the history of the cabinet.

Here are some pictures of it:

There is some water damage on the bottom, hopefully it will clean up nicely though.

That is not a Joust or a Joust 2 cabinet. That is a factory Konami cabinet. It may have been a factory built Devastators cabinet. I can't find a pic of a Devastators but here is a pic of a factory dedicated Contra in the cab style:

Cool. Thanks for the info. So converting this type of cabinet to a Nintendo blue multicade would not be blasphemy then, I'm taking it?

maybe this is just me but 60-1ing anything is bad to me. It's really up to you but my thing is to get a room full of working classics not to buy some cheap Chinese bootleg board.

I only have space for 3 cabinets, so in my case that is an impossibility. I was going to go with a SF2 with World Warrior and Hyper Fighting installed (on a switcher), a 60 in 1 and a 19 in 1. If I had the space and money then I would do what you're doing. I just want 3 nice looking cabinets that I can play a majority of the games I grew up with on. I just wanted to make sure this wasn't some ultra rare cabinet.

Maybe, clean it up and re-art the machine as a multi or something similar. Leave the cabinet in the original color configuration so it can be changed back easily later if that's what you or the next owner chooses. New side art, CPO, Marquee in any fashion will make a nice multi without destroying anything. Just my 2 cents.

Devastators cab for sure. Has the original control panel for it. Missing the cardboard bezel and marquee thou.

Jamma cab, easy for a 60 in 1. The only thing I hate about that is that it's a 2 player setup, and only a few select games use 2 players at once. So your off to the side of the monitor while playing and just doesn't feel right.

I had done the same thing to a Devastators cab. Only reason being was for a trade for a grail game of mine. Which has soon after fallen thru and the trade never took place.

Black Vinyl, new marquee, LCD monitor, and even thou it's pictured with black bat tops, I reverted it back to a red and blue balltop 8 ways. Felt soo much better to play that way.

If you have the option thou I would recommend making your own control panel for it and centering up the joystick, or add a trackball for the added experience. No point in really having the 2 player setup IMO.

If you only have room for three then with that one I would buy a Devastators marquee so the art would all match up and turn it into a vertical mame cabinet using the controls that are already there. What is your third cabinet?

I have both the 19 in 1 and the 60 in 1 in my gameroom (both have a large number of titles turned off so only the things that play right are turned on) but I view them as filler titles in my larger collection. If I only had room for a small number of machines I would go with mame cabinets over multiboards any day of the week.

Cool! Thanks for the recommendations. I will start it with the two player, and later on down the line I will probably change the control panel. I really want to play Centipede, so a trackball will be a must down the line. You preferred the feel of the 8 ways over the 4 ways? Which joystick did you put in it?

I only have the Devastators side art on one side and it is really faded. The cabinet needs to be painted, so I figured I would change it up. I just did not want to destroy a rare cabinet, which apparently this isn't. I mainly wanted it for the Pac-Man, Galaga, Burger Time, Dig Dug, Centipede, and Mario games. Anything else is just a bonus. I may build a MAME cabinet someday, but that will come later down the road. Right now I just want something that is plug and play, something that just works without a fuss. I got the 60 in 1 for $50, so it's not a huge loss either way. The Street Fighter 2 z-back cabinet is going to have an original restore though.

I'm also limited in space so I decided that to get real arcade stuff I was gonna hunter for neo geos and PC 10s(2 cabs and lots of games to keep swapping). I can put 4-5 machines in my room if they'll go through the door so I'll be choosy until I get a house with more space. There's a ton off cool stuff I'd love to have but I can get most of the common classics I totally miss and worry about getting the neat driving games and the museum pieces later.

Your welcome. I can't say 8 ways are better then 4 ways, but if your wanting to play all the games, its what I used.

I ordered the balltops version from twistedquarter.com but they are microswitched ones so you'll hear the clicking. I believe if the joys are original in the cab you have, they are leaf switched and are quiet. They should get the job done, and are still 8 ways so you should be able to play everything.

I would of kept mine original also, but i ended up having trouble getting the second player stick out due to it being "fused" together somehow. Ended up breaking vital parts on it.

In the end it's up to you on your preferences and what games your wanting to play. Take that into consideration on choosing 4 or 8 ways.

Man... everyone converts Devastators into multicades. My first game was a Devastators and I converted it to a 60 in 1 and sold it lol

I hooked up the 60 in 1 and for some reason my 19" vertical monitor will not show the entire game on the screen. For instance, in Pac Man I can't see the bottom where it shows how many lives you have. I checked the settings on my monitor and I have a Vertical Size, but no Horizontal size adjustment. Do you have any clue what might be causing this? If I use horizontal position adjustment I will lose the top of the screen with high score, etc. There is no sweet spot. Is this a monitor issue, or board issue?

Please help!

The horizontal size adjustment is on the width coil further in on the chassis, you need a special plastic hex screwdriver to adjust it.

You want this item.

Bob's Plastic Alignment Tool Kit (horiz width coils) $4.00

Also, re joysticks.

Wire the machine up so both player spots control player one, put a 4-way stick in 1 spot and an 8-way stick in the other spot. Pac-Man and Donkey Kong are beyond terrible with an 8-way. You can probably get your 4 way stick from bob too.

This one for a metal control panel.

Reunion Pac/Galaga Replacement Joystick 4-way $16.00

This one for a wood panel.

4-way Replacement Joystick w Long Handle For Wood $16.00
