Would this be a candidate for a tube swap?

That is a trinitron monitor. It is curved left and right, but flat up & down.

Not sure if that matters for your monitor cover in your game.

Put up a wanted ad on craigslist saying you'll pickup old tubes and I'm sure you'll get a ton of replies.

In addition, IIRC Sony decided to reinvent the wheel when it came to those tubes, so they're not compatible with anything except other Sony stuff.

So the consensus is..don't waste the ten bucks?

Rule of thumb..

Skip all Sony tvs.. It's just not worth the hassle.. Most of them will never work.

By the way, $10 is a perfectly fine price to pay for a good tv for a swap. My limit is $15, but I have to know its gonna work. I end up paying for one out of 5 or six I find.. So many out there.. Just had a slam dunk at goodwill.. Tvs were $20 each.. Asked the manager if he would give me a deal if I bought 4.. He gave them to me for free!

I ended up leaving a donation and my card for more tvs :)

trinitron tubes will never work unless the chassis is made for them. The deflection is not the same as regular in line gun CRT's.

they also do not look right or the same. Often the pitch is too good to give you the arcade look along with the vertical continuous phosphor stripes.

I have a sony broadcast monitor that I use for testing. It gives a great picture but especially for vertical games it looks wrong but great at the same time.
