Would love some advice on whether to restore or not.

I got a cab for $50. It was originally a stand up track & field (tag still inside). It was not working and found out it was just a bad plug on the power cord. Replaced that and it fires up. At one point it was converted to Jamma. Then, using a conversion board, it was converted to a Golden Axe

Anyway, I am trying to decide if I should go a head and restore this to Track and Field, or just put some 3 button jamma game in it and throw it in my arcade.

What would need to be restored.
CP - Does not have the original T&F Control panel. Current one is 2 joysticks, 3 buttons each.
Marquee
Side Art
PCB

Give me your honest opinion, is it worth it to put 2-300 dollars into it?

Thanks

Give us your honest opinion, is T&F worth the additional $200 to $300 to you? Is that value greater than the value of the three button Jamma game?

Yes, it's one of my all time favorite games.

Oryk, you make it so easy to find an answer.

BTW, I have another cr23 neck board I can send you so you can make up a cr23 for someone. I will go through my PMs as I think I have your address in there still.

I ended up putting together a track and field from an empty shell of a cab. I wasn't really planning on doing it, but some of the parts fell into my lap. I think the control panel (the one with buttons) can be a tough one to find.

It is one of those games that is sought after by certain collectors, but not an across the board 'must have' from a selling perspective. So if you want one to keep, I say go for it. If you are looking to fix it up to flip it, it might not be worthwhile. It seems like a lot of these cabinets were converted to JAMMA fighters/etc, since it already has a horizontal monitor and a control panel/cabinet setup that can easily accommodate two players.

Yeah, I actually thought about painting it red and converting it to a Neo-Geo 2 slot or something as well.

My fear really is trying to find the CP.

Well, I finally got the old CP off and low and behold it looks like an original track and field cp that they just drilled an extra hole in. Use the Left run buttons for the joysticks. The 3 and 4 player start buttons were just stickered over. YAY! ;)

Phoenixarcade.com had the CPO and side art.

There was just a PCB listed ($45 shipped) in the forsale section. I was gonna buy it for a spare but decided against it

If ya got the original hardness in the thing... go for it

You could forgo the side art and for $100 (cpo and PCB) be up and running

I don't mind wiring up a new harness, but if there is a jamma conversion that might work out well.

Gameongrafix has a cpo for 32.99. I know they are reprints, but I do love their quality. Quarter arcade has the pcb for 90, but 45 sounds much nicer.

Thanks a lot guys, I will see what I find and start posting the restoration thread.

Well I looked all through the for sale section and did a search and couldn't find a Track and Field PCB. I assume it's probably sold. I will post up seeing if anyone has one.

Thanks.

Unless I'm missing it, the only one I see on the Gameongrafix site is for the track ball version.

Even if they have it, spend the extra $17 and get the silk screened version from Phoenix Arcade.

I had the same situation where a T&F was converted to a Street Fighter II. Here is a slideshow of how I restored the control panel.

Track and Field was one of my favorites so it was a no-brainer to restore.

I ended up using a PC and MAME so that the cabinet will play all games that use the T&F button configuration:

Track and Field
Hypersports
88 Games
Gold Medalist
Field Day
Recordbreaker

I don't know how you feel about MAME, but for me, using MAME, and having the extra games in there was easier to do, and saved me the hassle of finding original PCB/harness, etc.
