I was reading a great article (Retro Gamer Magazine #93) about coinop Vector games and they listed just about every title I know of and mentioned how awesome they all are. It made me wonder, were there any turkeys in the vector titles?

Unlike a lot of folks, I happen to really like Gravitar (I know a lot of people don't) and I guess Lunar Lander might seem primitive by later standards but it's still an awesome game.

My guess is Tac-Scan counts as the "worst" of them but it's still fun.

This book says Barrier was the worst ...

"It was called Barrier and it is perhaps the worst vector game ever made"

... was it?

I've never played Barrier.

Toss up between War of the Worlds and Boxing Bugs..... both are repetitive snooze-fests.

Hell, DEMON is better than both of those.

Wait...Sundance is pretty zzzzzzzz too.

Barrier is the worst thing I have seen. I had the chance to pick one up, not knowing how rare it was, and passed because it sucked to play. It was maybe $100 at most. My friend then went and bought it and sold it to some dude for like $500. meh

boxing bugs is actually a challenging game. with a little more creative programming, it could have been a great co-op game. the hard part is remembering to use the punch button. it gets very intense after the first couple of levels and a 3rd hand would come in handy for the harder levels.. the other prob is you can't use both action buttons at the same time with out a delay.
the audio blows and the intermission scenes don't make a lot of sense, but funny in a weird way.

omega race is one game i need to revisit. i played it a few times and it left me wondering if there was going to be more it than just flying around a rectangle...

Barrier is a cool game, my Wife and I love playing that one 2 player.
We would love to find one. Some great fun on that one.
Warrior would be close to the top of the "games I hate" list and is hands down the worst vector game ever made.

It's always fascinating, isn't it, as to what everyone considers a good or a bad game....

I, for one, really enjoy Boxing Bugs and look forward to playing it at CAX each year. The concept is just so bizarre, the vector graphics so goofy, and the intermissions are just so funny...and the gameplay itself all reflects all of this (at least for me :) ).

The only improvement I would have added had I been the original programmer would be to allow your "boxing glove" to move immediately after you let a punch fly rather than having to wait until the glove retracts...IMO, this would have sped up gameplay and made it even more fun.

Warrior doesn't do much for me I suppose...but then I'm not a big fan of the fighting games in general ;) ...

I dig Boxing Bugs as well. One of my highlight games to play at CAX. I think Tac-Scan is cool too.

Sorry Dan, but Warrior just doesn't do it for me yet, I probably just need someone to show me how to play it, before I give it an official thumbs up or down. Funny, I do remember playing that one BITD too!

Excellent point. I love Quantuum and play the heck out of it when they bring it to the Houston show. But I heard many people walking away from it shaking their heads saying it sucks.

From all the vectors I have played I'd say Star Hawk was the least fun. (never played Barrier, WOW or BB)
I totally love the cabinet but the gameplay is just too simple. Sure, for that time the "3d" was pretty amazing but I think it has very little replay value.

Gravitar is simply brilliant, I love it and it's actually a game I can score reasonably on. I love it's demand for total and complete focus from the player. It's not about the fastest banging buttons but it's all about control....
