Worst Monitor to Remove?

Star Wars is a pain b/c ya gotta remove half of the cabinet to get it out, but, besides that it isn't too bad.
Hard/Race Drivin Compact otoh are a huge pain. 25" monitor mounted behind the marquee. Not only do you get to disassemble half the cab to get it out, you've then got to stand on the seat and pull it toward you to get it out then step down with it off of the seat. Not fun at all.

i have to disagree on tempest. it's easy as pie. just pulls right out. i way prefer that over any midway game. i think the worst would probably be tron, just cause of all the shit you have to pull out plastics wise.

Can't really say the worst, but the BEST is Williams (Defender, Stargate, Robotron, etc...) they have a few exceptions (Make Trax), but they were thinking when they designed those cabinets. Wish they were all that easy to work on.

It is a royal pain to remove a monitor from a Return of the Jedi. You have to remove the whole marquee assembly (brackets, glass and translite) and the monitor glass. You have to slide the monitor glass up and out, which often requires tipping the cabinet to the side, unless you have a tall ceiling.

Once the glass is out, you have to unbolt the two big blue metal edge pieces from the outside of the cab. That's the only way you can then slide the monitor forward out of the cabinet. Those are situated such that you have to slide them up and out as well--so you better have some headroom.

Unbolting the monitor is not much fun either--mine had screw heads on the front and nuts on the back. The problem was it is not possible to get your hands on both sides of this setup. There isn't much hand room on the back side either.

I think the cab looks cool (as does I Robot and Firefox) but I think it was designed for looks over ease of maintenance. Give me the Defender monitor setup any day!

Also obvious choice would be the big bastards in Silent Scope, simply because of the crazy wieght.

Not really the weight, but the fact that you have to remove the gun from the front before you can get the monitor out. Not real fun.

And try taking the monitor out of a Danger Zone. The entire top of the cab (with the monitor in it) swivels left to right about 150 degrees and up and down about 30 degrees. You really need someone else to help get it out...

I pulled a Tempest monitor a couple days ago. It's not bad at all.

Race Drivin/Hard Drivin "compact"? Sucks.

Ivan Stewarts off road. I remember we pulled one from a cab at an auction once. Was a real pain.

And not sure why some are saying Gorf...I had no problem pulling the monitor from the cabinet i had. Seemed pretty easy actually.

As someone previously stated, Daytonas suck. Gotta pull the panel and those brackets. Ick. Anything 33" or bigger is no fun due to shear weight. My worst personal experience was swapping a monitor in a Big Buck Hunter II by myself. It's a 25 and there is almost no where to get a grip on it.

Pong.....uh wrong thread.......

We have a GT in the gameroom in a huge cab with a 25" monitor that was a bear to get to.

Atari 4 Player XO Football.

21" monitor mounted in a 3' 6" tall 'cocktail' style cab. Must lift out of the top and the top section of the cab only tilts up and can't be removed. Takes 2 people. All that for about a 5 piece cap kit to boot...

This is my worst one by far. I put a 27" in my GT. It lays back and you also have to reach over the 2 foot wide control panel to lay it in. It was easier just to disconnect the control panel and all the wiring (boards, power supply and hard drive are in CP) then to keep reaching over to try and position the monitor.

I had a coworker that was about 98lbs soaking wet. He could pull those monitors in and out of those cabs like it was nothing. Its all about leverage...

Arctic Thunder was a royal pain in the ass. When it went on test and I had to replace one, when I was done I went back to the office and yelled at all the people responsible for the cabinet design. Taking apart the entire control panel was a giant time suck and a huge pain in the ass.

Before I knew what the hell I was doing, I would have said pulling a DK monitor out FROM THE REAR was a real pain in the ass.

Then I figured out how the marquee retainer worked :D
