Worst game sequel

Ikari Warriors 3 was bloody terrible...come to think about it, Ikari Warriors 2 wasn't that great either compared to the original :(

I disagree. I think that Ikari 3 was decent but it came too late while the plot for victory road should have been used as the last game in the franchise.

Mania Challenge wasn't what I wanted for a followup to Mathmania. Vs vs player was good, truncated roster and wrestler entrance music are terrible.

For some newer games: (some might disagree)

Shadow Dancer: Its amazing the original Shinobi has some pretty cool bosses/battles. Dancer has some of the worst boss encounters I've seen in latter arcade games. Ken Oh facsimile, a trolley(?) two 8' Amazonian women, one in which is the head boss of the shuttle level (another wtf). Mind you there are overall 4 stage levels compared to 5 from the original. The cave one is cool with shadows but meh on others. I guess a graphics overhaul and a sidekick dog companion was their line of thinking of a better game. No wonder Dancer was nowhere as widespread as its predecessor.

Strider II: This is the result when the creative side from the original is/was not involved in the sequel. Flashier graphics automatically does not grant a guarantee for superior gameplay.

Blandia: This was a sequel to one of my favorite Taito *kit* games Gladiator. Throw away what you had seen in the first game, now make it a mediocre fighting game - I stress mediocre.

Super Mario Bros.

While it ended-up being such an iconic game, including a whole generation of kids that don't even know it's a sequel, it veered so far from the original that it's not really a sequel. In my mind, Nintendo should have named it differently. For example: When do the brothers every see each other?

Comparing MB and SMB is like comparing DK and DK3... Only similar in name and one character, but otherwise radically different games.

I think SMB is a great game, but it's not a sequel.
