I've discovered that the ribbon cable that connects the 16 digit displays to the MPU on my Sys. 11 game are pretty well shot. I don't know how or why, but I do know that if you move them around, wiggle them, whatever it causes segments to appear and disappear.

It's a 26 Conductor, 3 position cable. Beyond that, I know nothing else about it. Great Plains is out of stock, and looking at Digikey they want to know the pitch, wire guage, strand, etc. for a cable so I can't figure out which one I'm looking for.

Anyone know of an easy place to get one of these, or have some more info on them?

Have you tried marco specialties? They have a bunch of ribbon cables listed.

Honestly, that's the only place I won't shop at anymore. Prices aren't great, but the shipping is horrendous. They want more just to ship the ribbon cable than other places even sell the ribbon cables for.

You might drop Ed at GPE an email and inquire.

He posted on another site a couple weeks ago that he had found a new supplier for 26 pin connectors and expected to receive them at any time (he makes his own cables, he just needed to find the proper connectors for the ends).

Quite possible the website just isn't updated yet.

New ones from other manufacturer required me to significantly modify my cable press's base plate...which I didn't want to do.

But -- I finally got my backordered 26-pin connectors today! Will update website tonight.

You might be able to 'revive' it. Simply remove the connector at the end--it's 2 plastic halves that press onto the end of the ribbon, with little 'teeth' that poke into the individual wires. Then cut about 1/2" off the end of the ribbon with a good pair of scissors. Then line up the connector carefully over the cut end of the ribbon and press together carefully. Repeat on the other end of the cable. Be sure to maintain the correct l/r (or top/bottom) alignment of each end connector.
