i just happen to have power switcher

monitor

game board

harness

and plug cable.

i decide to hooked up.. power cable to on/off then on/off to the power switcher AC. AC to monitor.

Monitor fries and almost start fire!

am i supposed to have a power isolation to hook up in between power switcher and monitor?

can u drop some bottom line how it works if i wanted to work with icade board with monitor with simple system..
 
on newer monitors not always, but 98% of the time yes Isolation transformer and there's another thing that might be needed, can't remember right now it's late lol.
 
can someone draw diagrams here this should be in arcade. This would be helpful to anybody in world who s newbie to arcaddiction! Is this what it supposee to be or any adjustment needed?

donno if the A/C line filter is required that's about the only thing i see missing from your diagram, you could add a fuse inline before the on off switch also (if you really wanted to get technical and specific).

Everyone makes mistakes it's how we learn. don't sweat it, nothing your wallet can't fix atleast you didn't walk away and actually burn your house down or get hurt.

Look at Broodwich's (Bob's) diagram, you're missing some parts and you've got some stuff hooked up wrong. Your switcher will not power a monitor.
 
Yeah, just use Bob's diagram. It is what I went by when I first built my jamma test rig.

Also, you don't really need a filter. But I would deffinetly use a fuse. I use my test rig mainly for chassis reapair testing, and I've had a WG K7000 with a bad voltage regulator that would pop the test rig's fuse instead of the chassis fuse.

I just recommended the filter as i've seen it on some set ups, good to know it's not required. i looked at my cabs switching psu unit and it didn't have the filter but i saw the fuse and i agree it's cheap insurance.
 
If you are using a G07 and didn't use an isolation transformer, then that is why it burned up. You most likely blew the regulator and some rectifying diodes at the very least...

I didn't intend to imply that you were wrong. I would also recommend using an a/c line filter if this is intended for an actual cab or some sort of supergun type setup where it will be on for extended amounts of time. I just meant that it didn't HAVE to used, since he was looking for the minimal requirements. I don't use one on my test rig, but all my cabs have them.

noted and i'm glad you chimed in because now i'm gonna ask what's the benefits/reasoning to having the filter? as my machine doesn't have one i'm wondering if maybe i should invest in one.

is it OK to connect the monitor to the isolation transformer, thus using the existing wiring.

As I understand it, the a/c line filter is used to filter "electric noise" out of the a/c voltage coming into the cab. This would prevent occurences such as being able to hear the washing machine motor noise through your cabs speakers. I use this as an example since I have herad of washer or dryer motor's being able to be heard through home stereo speakers before.

that's pretty much what i figured but that's an excellent way to explain it!

Yes, that's fine.


As for the discussion on the line filter - not having one will NOT cause a monitor problem like described. I have seen lots of conversions where one was not included, and the games worked just fine.

If you have a monitor that needs isolation, then you need an isolation transformer....
