Nice WCS at $1200 vs. beat Stargate for $1700, no question go with the WCS. If they were priced equally though, I'd go Stargate. Most people have never played a Stargate, or can't get over the Gottlieb 'feel'. But if you can get past those things, you'll find one of the best games of the 90's. Most games have a 'mode' wizard mode or an 'objective' based wizard mode. Like AFM is objective based, and games like Addams Family are mode based. Stargate has BOTH, which makes it (I think), the only game in the 90's that has both. So in addition to the 2 wizard modes + a 3rd mini wizard mode, there's also an jackpot that can be increased through objectives or quartz, 8 different multiballs, varying hurry up awards, multiballs that you can 'add a ball' to, 5 stage combos, etc.
In summary, in terms of rules, it's better than almost every other game in the 90's--and in fact, it might be the best (it has deeper rules than TZ, which most people talk about as having the deepest Williams ruleset). It's a very stop and go game, but when 4 of the 6 modes are multiball, you don't notice it very much. Probably also has the coolest mode start shot of any game outside of Lord of the Rings.
One thing most people don't understand is the 'quartz' aspect of the game. As you acquire 'quartz', you can do all kinds of cool things with it (double the jackpot, extra ball lit, 50 million, acquire the 7th symbol, award super jackpot, etc). So it becomes a strategy to get quartz to get things like the extra ball and double the jackpot.
If you can't tell, I really like the game.
