Well as CRT problems plague me I have started looking at replacing some monitors with LCDs. Not any classics, just 90s JAMMA type stuff that I am fed up with on trying to get the CRTs working right.

So I purchased this:

It seems to be the best option out there but with the monitors I have(Envision G2016wa2), I am not sure if it is possible to adjust my monitor to work with 15 kHz or if it has to be a special tri-sync monitor. There don't seem to be any options in the monitor to adjust that so I'm guessing it simply can't support that resolution but I want to be sure. Is there something I can change on either side or do I just need to invest in a monitor that can adjust?

What you bought doesn't convert CGA to VGA. It only converts the VGA plug to a compatible plug for a monitor.

What you need is a CGA/EGA to VGA converter:

I have one of those but was hoping for something that is less of a pain since those do not use the correct CGA connector and add another AC adapter to the mix. I guess this one was too good to be true. So are there any LCDs that can work with this other one I bought or what can be done with it really?

You can use what you bought to make it a more clean install:
-plug the video output harness of the game into your converter
-then a VGA cable from your converter to the converter I posted
-then a VGA cable from the CGA/EGA to VGA converter to a VGA monitor

I was lazy when I did mine and just soldered the arcade's video wires to the larger posts on the CGA/EGA to VGA converter (far bottom left)

I tapped into the arcade's power supply for the +5V, no need for another power adapter.

Yeah, in how I had been using the converter already I had soldering wires to it but this would make it a little easier. I had just hoped that this simple pass-through could work on some sort of multi-sync monitor out there but I am seeing that those cost as much as getting an LCD with the CGA connector built into it anyways. :( Thanks for the tips!

Ok for those video converters paradise arcade sold a kit that had a jamma adapter for it. Pretty much you plugged a finger board in between the jamma harness and the board and it had the connectors to run the board for power and video as a pass through. You might want to check with them.

I want to say this is the adapter but I'm not sure if it comes with the cables they had for it.

Anyway if you are talking about a 19 inch arcade machine you can buy commercial lcds that take the cga input but they are not cheap. For 25 inch arcades you can get a 26 inch widescreen that will take cga in. They make a bezel for them to make its fit look better.

Depending on the cabinet mounting might be an issue. Happ's makes a mount for the vision pro they sell but it didn't work in my neo geo because the monitor mounted on the top and bottom instead of the sides like many cabinets. I did post some pics here when I did it. The monitor even came with a cga extension cable since the cable had to reach to the front of the cabinet instead of the back. Their is a link in the thread to the power adapter cable I used so I didn't have to make my own(figured for the 8 bucks I didn't care and ordered it with the screen).
