...generally makes me run unless it's something I really want. Then, it gets a thrice-over.

Reminds me of that look of disappointment you get when you have to inform someone that you know, that the old arcade machine that has been taking up room in their garage for 10 years really isn't worth as much as they think.

Reality can be tough on people. When I bought my Donkey Kong, the couple who owned it had advertised it on CL for $650. I told them that these don't go for that much around here. I offered $450 but let them know that I only went that high because the monitor was really sharp (the very same monitor that blew a flyback & HOT right after I got it--oh well).

The dude was ready to take my $450 cash. His wife was clearly insulted and argumentative. She told me she sees DK's on Ebay for over a grand. I told her I was fine to let it go at $650 but to keep my phone number.

Sure enough, two weeks later, she called. I probably overpaid at $450 but DK was the final game I really wanted for my collection.

yeah. i got lucky that way on my wizard of wor i used to have. guy had it listed on craigslist for $500 or so, never sold. turned out he was an estate sale buyer, and picked it up not knowing anything about it. i talked him down to $250 on the phone, went over, and used the horribly unconverged monitor to knock it down to $150 or 175, can't remember. ended up getting lucky on that.
