When dealing with someone new, There are a few words that should send up a red flag.
When I hear the words.

"You will make money if you sold it on ebay." Why sell it to me if ebay is so great?

"The dog chewed the power cord." I bet you were the kid who said the dog ate my homework too.

"You can find parts for them cheap on ebay." Excuse me? If ebay is the place to get top dollar for an item. What makes you think you can find a item cheap there?

"It just this one chip that causing it not to work". That one chip that one one makes or it's just cheaper to buy a working board instead.

"All you need is a cap kit to fix it." Excuse me there is more than just capicators that will cuase a mointor to stop working.

So what words do you hear that sends up a red flag with you?

It's a Sundance!

Anyone who types an ebay or CL ad in all caps or misspells things so badly or the sentences are so mangled that it's sometimes difficult to actually understand what they are saying.

None of that sends up a red flag to me. I expect all of that. A red flag would be something like "My friend tried to fix the monitor"... because then you know that instead of being able to repair the monitor, now you're going to need a completely different monitor. Stuff like that.

The old try to figure that they did so you can repair their patch and find out what the real problem was.

We all been there. Laughs

When I bought my Sea Wolf from a guy at a garage sale, he said:

"Yeah, these are worth $1500 with a little work."

I told him: "I've been collecting and restoring games for more than a decade."

He quickly closed his mouth.

I got it for $60......

"Of course I took my birth control pill."

Soon followed by:

"I'm late. We need to talk."

"I wish you were closer"

"Could you send or post some more pictures"

"Wish i had the funds"

"I need to clear it with my spouse"

"I'll be back in touch next week when i get paid"

"Look at my $50 score off Craigslist"- Rarely do we see the end result of what this really cost you.
Any of these sound familiar?

Has there even been one game listed where that has been correct? Its great when it says that and has a lock bar on it.

i have gotten scores off CL that almost cost nothing to repair, usually minor monitor repair.

Really? this hasn't been shared yet?

"Probably just needs a fuse."

Also, these things scare me:

  • "Any mention of industry specific terms like JAMMA, Dedicated, HUO, PCB, etc."
  • "My favorite game as a kid"
  • "Best offer"
  • "Only xxx hours of playtime"
  • Any 4 digit price.
All of the above mean I'm gonna pay too much
