Good to see you are back and in form.
Yes, I see that incorrect usage of the word "arcade" on CL often, and it does mildly annoy me. I ignore it because the "arcades" are overpriced and of the ilk that they'd have to pay me to take.
And "mint," to refer to a condition, while it is almost always an exaggeration, is at least correct usage. Incorrect, and much more annoying, usage is "minty" or other such terms which relate to peppermint, plant oil, or fresh breath. The term "mint," in regard to an item's condition, derives from its use in coin collecting where it refers to the same condition as when it was minted... in the mint.
Ahhh.... thanks for the invitation to vent![]()
Oh, and I forgot to mention: "a lot" is two words, "alot" is not a word.
Aaaarrrrgggghhhh!!!!
And guess what? You do not have "arcades in your garage" unless you have several sectioned off buildings in there each with a selection of their own games.
I've seen them on eBay for $2000 so I'm giving you a great deal at $1985. Here is the picture:

...there's nothing wrong with saying you collect "arcades" ...it's acceptable shorthand and everyone knows what you're talking about. It's like if you say I'm eating Subway for lunch....no one is going to get confused and think you're actually eating the entire establishment...they know you mean Subway sandwich!!!!
Usage is different there... They are both places. You don't say you're eating a Subway, right? You're still eating a gross sandwich foolishly hoping its going to make you skinny.
Does the "arcade" thing really bother people? Whenever people bring it up, it seems like a facetious attempt to be an arcade elitist or something...it just comes off as super douchey. "Classic Arcades" is a completely acceptable shorthand for "Arcade Video Games" ...when people talk about collecting or playing "Classic Arcades" you know EXACTLY what they're talking about in the context of the conversation.
I hate when someone keeps a board for 2 1/2 years then acts like a douche.

Aw, come on, I didn't mean anything by it. I'm just trying to make fun of crazy craigslist stuff like a lot of people do on here. I'm sorry if I came across as a douche, I just knew there were a lot of other "grammar nazis" here and thought this topic would be a fun discussionI've never even seen anyone here misuse the term like I was talking about. Sorry if I came across as anything but lighthearted... I thought people here would find it funny, apparently some didn't, I honestly was wrong and it was a pretty crappy idea for a thread, but I can't really think of a way to undo posting it, so... yeah, sorry.
